TIGER LACEY MEMORIAL RIDE DAY THIS SUNDAY
Tiger Lacey died from a sudden illness on January 31, 2013. The 31-year-old professional racer had raced around the globe, including taking many trips with MXA’s Dennis Stapleton—most recently to Kuwait. Tiger’s friends will be holding a Tiger Lacey Ride Day on January 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at San Jose, California’s 408MX track. All proceeds will go to his wife, Dana, and son, Lynx. Kurt Nicoll’s 1983 Kawasaki KX500 rare factory prototype will be auctioned off at Bonham’s Les Grandes Marques du Monde au Grand Palais in Paris on February 6. Only four of these works 500s were built for the 1983 season, two going to the USA and two to Europe for Dave Watson and Kurt Nicoll. Noteworthy features include works Kayaba suspension front/rear, and special frame, swingarm, Uni-Track links, radiators, air box, exhaust system and bodywork. The current owner purchased the ex-Nicoll KX500 from an Italian motorcycle dealer in November of 2011. It is estimated to auction for $35,000.

GLEN HELEN TWO-STROKE REVIVAL SERIES— CULMINATING AT THE WORLD TWO-STROKE CHAMPIONSHIP ON APRIL 6
Glen Helen will host a three-race Two-Stroke Championship series, with the final race of the series being the MTA World Two-Stroke Championship. The first race will be held on February 16 on a totally redesigned REM Track. Round two will be on March 16. These two warm-up races are a chance for riders to get their smokers dialed in for the April 6 Championship event — with a $4000 purse courtesy of L.A. Sleeve. Race entries are $40, including free transponder scoring, with general admission $10 for adults and $5 for kids. The February and March prequel races will also include four-stroke support classes run by iMoto. No four-strokes will be allowed at the World Championship final on April 6.

OAKLAND SUPERCROSS FLASHBACK: THE JAMMER’S TIRE
In 1979 Kawasaki factory rider Jammin’ Jimmy Weinert showed up at the Oakland Supercross with a neck brace and a paddle tire. Last year the MXA test crew complained about certain aspects of the Alias A1 line. To their credit, Alias answered every issue to make a pant that fit better, had more leather on the knees, was more protective and was roomier in the thighs. The new A1 gear is light, breathable and attractive. The Alias jersey was especially comfortable.

MEMORIES OF THE WAY WE WERE: THE FIRST SUPER MINI —1973 HODAKA DIRT SQUIRT
As was the tradition with Hodaka, every bike they produced had a distinctive name—although the “Racer Clam” graphic on the air box was a little odd. The 1973 Dirt Squirt was a 100cc, five-speed machine with a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel. It was a pre-shrunk Super Rat and the first ever Super Mini.

7602 Racing’s 7075 aluminum KTM brake tip is a bolt-on extension for the KTM brake pedal. It is not only more aggressive, but it is adjustable fore and aft across a 1/2-inch range.
VERDICT: You wouldn’t think that a half-inch would make any difference. But, every MXA test rider raved about the 7602 tip. They didn’t rave about the anodized orange color (also available in black), sharp teeth or brake snake hole. Nope, they loved the fact that the longer brake pedal tip was more accessible and more tactile.
