THE DAY PETER SAGAN CAME BY THE OFFICE TO RIDE WITH ZAP AND THE RBA GANG!

Peter Sagan and Zap.

No one paid much attention when unheralded Peter Sagan dropped by the MXA/RBA/MBA offices one month ago to go on the Road Bike Action lunch ride. Now, everyone knows who Peter Sagan is after his three Tour de France Stage wins. Here is the video of Sagan winning the sprint against Hi-Torque crew.

WHAT JAMES SAID: ONE MINUTE WITH BUBBA ABOUT THE BUD

James had a mediocre day and his video interview has mediocre sound… sometimes that’s how it goes.

BRITISH RED BULL PRO NATIONAL AT CANADA HEIGHTS CANCELED: HOW MUDDY DOES IT HAVE TO BE FOR THE BRITS TO CANCEL A RACE?

When the tried to remove the mud off the top of the Canada Heights track, they found mud underneath it. Photo: RedBullNationals

According to redbullnationals.com: Following a night of torrential rain we’ve been left with no choice but to cancel today’s racing at Canada Heights. While the track is rideable for the adult pro classes the infrastructure is badly waterlogged and Matt Bates, Managing Director of Red Bull Pro Nationals promoters Events 22, has been forced to make the tough call to pull the plug on Sunday’s schedule. “Canada Heights is a great all-weather track,” says Matt, “but the amount of overnight rain has wreaked havoc. We can scrape the top layer of mud off the track but where do we put it? Then there are the teams and spectators to consider ? we’re not prepared to run an event where we have to tow people in and out of the venue. It’s a potential health and safety nightmare.

“To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. So much time and effort goes into planning a Red Bull Pro National and it’s not a decision I take lightly but I’ve been left with no choice. After pretty decent weather yesterday ? and after checking the forecast from the Met Office – I was optimistic we’d be good to go today, but sadly that’s not turned out to be the case.” A decision on whether or not to rerun the event at a later date will be taken over the next few days. Advanced tickets purchased for the event will be refunded in due course as will Sunday’s rider entry fees.

TWO-STROKE PROJECT: DON MONTAGUE’S CR500

“Like most people,” said Don Montague, “I jumped on the four-stroke bandwagon. My costs went up and my fun went down. Recently, I switched back to two-strokes and I’m really enjoying motocross again.”

After deciding to drop out of the four-stroke crowd, Donald Montague had Service Honda’s A.J. Waggoner modify a 2008 CRF250R frame to accept a 2002 CR500 engine. It features a close ratio transmission, Crankworks cranksaft, Hinson clutch, Cryo-REM rotating assemblies, Eric Gorr porting, VForce 3 and a 38mm Keihin PWK Air Striker carburetor. Montague’s CR500 features Pro Circuit’s A-Kit works, a Pro Circuit linkage, 270mm front rotor and custom graphics. It tookl Don six months to finish his dream bike and now that he’s built it, he’s startng a Tom Morgan-modified Honda CR250 two-stroke engine in a 2009 CRF250 frame.

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST…DAVID PHILIPPAERTS BREAKS BOTH ARMS

David Phillippaerts will miss the rest of the 450 GP season…again.

Monster Energy Yamaha’s David Philippaerts could be back on a motocross track in as little as three months after a thorough and extremely successful operation at Spedali Civili di Brescia hospital. The former 450 World Champion suffered fractures to both wrists after a crash during the first moto of the Grand Prix of Sweden at Uddevalla last Sunday.

The Italian flew home for an operation that would involve replacement of the plates he had installed after his accident last summer. The damage to the radius bones of both arms was repaired by Dr Pier Paolo Borelli, who was able to stabilise the fractures by substituting and shifting the metalwork. Such was the comprehensiveness of the procedure that Philippaerts was already able to start stretching his fingers, felt considerably less pain and is able to sleep comfortably. ?DP19′ is expected to leave the hospital over the weekend.

OH NO, NOT ANOTHER ONE! HARRI KULLAS OUT OF 25O WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH KNEE INJURY

The MX2 Grand Prix racer will miss the rest of the 2012 FIM Motocross World Championship after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament and damaging the meniscus in the joint when he twisted his knee in the first moto for the Swedish Grand Prix at Uddevalla.

MAMMOTH FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION & JUNE MOUNTAIN CLOSES

Mammoth Lakes filed for bankruptcy protection in the face of a $43-million breach-of-contract judgment brought against the town by a developer. Town officials stated in a news release that bankruptcy “is the only option that the Town is left with.” Mammoth Lakes has been struggling. It had cut services, reduced emploees pay, laid off 75 full-time employees and closed June Mountain, its sister resor, for economic reasons.

Mammoth Lakes will remain open for business and hopefully the famous ski area, which suffered largely because of a paltry snow season in 2011-12, will rebound with a big winter in 2012-13.

WHAT’S NEW AT HONDA? THE N BOX, OF COURSE

Honda announced that it will introduce the N Box mini-van for the Japanese market today. The N Box should retial for around $15,000. The Honda N Box is part of the growing Japanese domestic Kei-car mini-vehicle segment (Kei cars have 660cc engines). The large (for a mini) interior space is made possible by Honda’s center-tank layout, new DOHC powerplant and attachable aluminum ramp. Kei cars are not suited to American highway speeds or lifestyles?thus it will not come to the USA.

MXA PRODUCT PROFILE: PATRIOT RACING EXHAUST

“We’ve been in business for 26 years. We’ve been private-labeling for different companies throughout the years, and now we are trying to put our own brand out there. Nowadays, average pipes are a thousand dollars for a full system made out of Ti, but stainless still results in good quality and power. We feel the market needs that right now. It’s a completely stainless steel system; it doesn’t use any rivets, and it comes with an extra packing kit.”?Patriot Racing’s David Aleman. $249.95 (slip-on), $399.95 (full system)?www.patriotracingexhaust.com or (714) 777-3278.
