MXA PHOTO OF THE DAY: IF THAT DAY WAS 43 YEARS AGO

FEETS019Factory BSA rider, Catalina Grand Prix winner, World Vet Champion and the man who has raced the most motocross races of anyone in America (he started racing in 1947), Chuck “Feets” Minert is slated to receive the Edison Dye Lifetime Achievement Award this Sunday during the World Vet Motocross Championships at Glen Helen. The complete MXA wrecking crew would like to extend our warm-felt thanks to Chuck, who has been an MXA test rider for decades and a valuable source of technical help and funny stories. This photo of Chuck during the 1970 Trans-AMA series pretty much sums up the now 83-year-old racer’s life — go for broke. “Great fun,” as Chuck would say.

WHAT YOU’RE MISSING IN THE CURRENT MXA

Far be it from us to suggest that you click off of www.motocrossactionmag.com and run to the store to get the latest copy of MXA… but everything in print is not on MXA’s website. That includes a Bridgestone X30 versus Dunlop MX32 tire shootout. You can only read it in the mag — the paper one. And yes, we pick winners!

AN ASSORTMENT OF ODD PHOTOS FROM UNDER THE DESK

randelfootMotocross boots come in all shapes and sizes, but this is the one motocross boot you never want to wear. Randel Fout is the proud owner of this boot and the broken parts inside it.

carterdCarter Dubach is a lucky kid — his dad is an AMA Supercross winner, former Yamaha factory rider, owns DR.D and has won 22 World Vet titles. But, what makes Carter lucky is that he helps MXA with their minicycle testing.

MXAPARKINGThis might seem like the ultimate perk, but with a parking place in the pits comes great responsibility — like beating everyone to the spot.

CRASHTESTDUMMYThis pretty well sums up the life of an MXA test rider.

MXAdougjardineSponsorship packages come in all manners — MXA is the only motocross magazine to go on the air show circuit with aerobatic pilot Doug Jardine. That’s Pike’s Peak in the background.

RAYDONOTMXA test riders don’t get to pick the bikes they race. Bikes are assigned based on the needs of the testing program and the assignments are strictly enforce. Very strictly! Note the suspension settings written on the rear fender.

HOLLEYBEARMXA photographer Debbi Tamietti shot this really strange photo at Joe Sutter’s private track. No, it’s not Big Foot…it’s Jimmy Holley.

JOHNBBRAYDENMXA’s John Basher with two bundles of joy.

REMNUMBER1This trophy hangs on the wall at Glen Helen. It lists all the number one riders since 1989. MXA test riders Alan Olson (1995, 1997), George Kohler (1994, 1996, 2003), Jody Weisel (1998), Rick Eierstedt (2000), Bengt Johansson (2002) , Billy Musgrave (2004) and Ray Pisarski (2011) have won the number one plate a combined ten times.

HORST&HORSTTime doesn’t heal all wounds, but it does give us pause to look back on how young many of our heroes once were. This is ATK designer Horst Leitner today and Horst when he was racing the 500 GPs in the 1960s.
