MXA FITNESS TIP OF THE WEEK
With the outrageous premiums and Obamacare in play, the American people are avoiding trips to the doctor like the plague. When people refuse to see a doctor to get treatment due to high costs, we as Americans have a serious problem. People are holding off as long as they can until it is absolutely necessary to get treatment, and for some it will be too late.
So what can we do about it? As much as we need affordable health insurance as a nation, the government is something we can not control. So let’s take control of what is rightfully ours, our bodies. The nation’s state of health as a whole is lower than ever. How did we get here? Fast food, lack of exercise, overeating and pharmaceutical drugs that just mask the symptoms of disease.
By taking control of our own bodies by consuming plant-based foods and supplementing that with exercise, trips to the doctor office will become few and far between. Veggies are proven to cure and prevent disease. It is always easy to talk the talk. Promising to make changed tomorrow, next week or next year, doesn’t ge the job done. Walking the walk will keep you and your physician more like strangers than constant companions.

ON ANY SUNDAY: THE NEXT CHAPTER
GLEN HELEN PREVIEW: WHO’S HOT WHO’S NOT
Last Thursday, Glen Helen hosted a one-hour Pro practice. The riders got to ride the majority of the AMA National track that is going to be used on May 24th at the first round of the AMA Nationals. Every factory team made an appearance to get some testing in before the big day. From my perspective it was a day to put in my two cents about who looks hot and who’s still has some work to do.
This will be Jessy Nelson’s third year racing the National’s. With his best finish a 7th as a rookie and a majority of his finishes outside the top ten, this will be a make-it or break-it year for him. How did he look? He was by far the most photogenic for the camera with the best scrubs and style. His speed? Top ten for sure. He has potential for top five.
Again, Malcolm Stewart will be on a 450. He had one break-out ride at Budds Creek last year—pulling off a fourth. The rest of his results were inside the top 20. Will his results improve from last year? With James as his training partner he has nowhere to go but up. Expect solid top ten finishes from Malcolm.
In the past two years, every race that Brett Metcalfe entered has been an 8th or lower in the 450 class. Brett, now filling in for Ryan Villopoto on Factory Kawasaki, has no excuses to get the green machine in the top five consistently.
In the 2013 Nationals Ryan Dungey was on the podium in 12 out of 13 races! That, manfriends, is called consistency–and is what Ryan is known for. Was he the fastest at Glen Helen? No, but he looked good and will hound Stewart for the title.
Bottom line Justin Barcia goes for it. It just does not look like Justin and his Honda mesh well together. Either Justin needs to change his riding style or Honda needs to cater to Justin’s needs to get on top of the box. Either way it won’t matter in 2015.
Honestly, I did not see Shane ride. He was out there the whole day, but he just did not catch my eye. What does that mean? Absolutely nothing. Last year was Shane’s rookie season barely breaking the top 20. He knows what needs to be done.
This needs to be Darryn Durham’s time to shine. He had better results in 2012 aboard his privateer Honda than in 2013 when he stepped up to the Pro Circuit team. Do not dare to think I would ever blame a Pro Circuit bike for bad results. The pressure is Darryn alone. Mitch’s machine gives him no excuse for poor results.
Thank goodness someone finally picked up Weston Peick! I give a round of applause to the RCH team for giving Weston a chance. How did he look? He still looked like he was still getting used to the new machine, but I have confidence he will perform when under pressure. His best finish last year was a fourth. Let’s see if he can pull off a podium on the RCH machine.
The talk of the town, Christophe Pourcel had me fooled. For the majority of the day he was just cruising around looking horrible. I stopped paying attention to him and moved on. Then, at the end of the session, I caught him hit a jump that no one else even attempted. After that, he was on the gas. He looked flawless and incredibly fast. If the Frenchman stays on U.S soil long enough to finish out the series, he will be a Championship contender.
Oh Zach, all we want you to do is to finish out an entire season. With only three outdoor Nationals under his belt (with his best finish a 14th), Zach needs to pull off some great rides this year. How did he look? Great! He is always fast when he is off the ground.
Ivan Tedesco is now on the RCH team with Weston Peick. In 2009, Ivan was a consistent top 5 rider—that was 5 years ago. Ivan had good style and speed. Hopefully, he can carry it through the long outdoor season.
Well, it is unfortunate that Mike Alessi will not be lining for all of the AMA Nationals this year. He always keeps everyone on their toes. He says that he is going to the Canadian Nationals instead of the American Nationals.
