Yamaha’s Jay Marmont won his first-ever Australian 450 Supercross Championship by grabbing the holeshot and pulling away from his main rival Tye Simmonds at the Ipswich, Queensland, round. American Chris Blose was third. Marmont has won four Australian National Motocross Championships, but this is his first Supercross crown. Simmonds was second in Ipswich and second overall by 8 points. Suzuki’s Daniel McCoy ended the five-race series in third overall in front of Billy Mackenzie.

In the 250 class KTM’s Matt Moss clinched his third 250 Supercross title when he made it past American Gavin Faith late in the moto. Yamaha’s Kirk Gibbs was third for the night. In series standings Moss took the title by a large margin over Faith, who was in front of Luke Styke, Brendan Harrison and Luke Arbon.

The 2011 Australian series was hampered by bad weather, controversy between Chad Reed and the promoter and criticism of the constantly changing race formats.
