At the Tasmanian round of the Australasian Supercross Championship series, they started with a 20-man heat race and eliminated last five riders. The front 15 riders moved to a 15-man heat race and the last five got eliminated. The third round was a ten-man heat and the back five were eliminated. The final heat was a five-man heat and the winner was the winner.

Justin Brayton won three of the four heats and the final to get his first win in the Australian series. Unfortunately, Brayton and Kevin Windham are leaving the series (so they can come home and start testing for the AMA Supercross series). Josh Hansen and Mike Alessi will stay on in Australia.

It should be noted that the lap times in Tasmania were 35 seconds and the heat races were less than four minutes long. Far be it from Americans to advise Australians on how to run their races, but all this weirdness doesn’t have much application to the real world of Supercross?it is the equivalent of a local American fairgrounds race. To improve the standards of Australian Supercross riders (for the betterment of Aussie riders and the sport in Australia), the Australian promoters might want to hold some true-to-life 20-lap Supercross races instead of a bunch of gimmicky races.
