A crowd of 48,846 watched hometown hero Ryan Dungey out duel Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto for his second victory of the season. Mike Alessi grabbed the holeshot but ended up 14th by the end of the race. Villopoto took the lead, where he stayed for the next 16 laps. Then Dungey made his move after steadily whittling away the other Ryan’s lead. They passed each other back and forth before Ryan Dungey reclaimed first and won his 13th ever AMA Supercross.

Ryan Dungey said, “Man, what a ride. Ryan and I put on a hard charge and he kept me honest the whole way. It’s been a while since I’ve been on top of box, but, man, in front of all these fans it was amazing. We could hear them out there. It was pretty loud and I’ve never felt anything like it. This is amazing to win in front of the home crowd, and I never could have dreamed something like this.”

Davi Millsaps rounded out the podium in third, but lost second overall in the series to Dungey by one point with three races left. Ryan Villopoto has a 22-point lead on Dungey and a 23-point lead on Millsaps. James Stewart pulled out of the race when he jammed his wrist. He will have it looked at on Monday. Weston Peick scored a top ten finish in Minneapolis.

THE 250 EAST

Marvin Musquin kept his title hopes alive in the 250 East with a wire to wire win.

In the 250 class,Marvin Musquin grabbed the holeshot and was never headed. Points leader Wil Hahn and last week’s winner Blake Wharton were second and third, respectively. The best action came with Tyler Bowers caught and passed Wharton for on lap two, but 5 laps later Wharton passed Bowers back as the two collided…with Bowers going down.

Marvin Musquin said,”It was a great day. I was fastest in practice. I won my heat race. And I won the main event with the holeshot. It was a perfect day and a great feeling. I just try to win and don’t worry about what happens. I didn’t make any mistakes and got the holeshot, then I did my best.”

A PLEA FOR SANITY

Wil Hahn’s lead in the 250 East now sits at 5 points over Musquin. But, sadly for the series’ drama, the 250 East will now take a break as the 250 West starts up after an eight-week break (perhaps the stupidest race series scheduling in the history of sport?these breaks to switch back and forth kill the fan’s interest and the rider’s momentum). Come on Feld, bite the bullet and combine the 250 East/West into one 250 Supercross Championship. You will have more star power at each event and the fans will get to see all the 250 riders instead of half of them. Hahn and Musquin will not meet again until the Last Vegas round.
