Rui on the Honda works bike in 2012.
Rui Goncalves has signed with Steve Dixon’s Bike it Yamaha Cosworth team to contest the 450 World Championship and the Portuguese National Championships (in a cooperative effort with Yamaha Motor Portugal).
Goncalves will race the bike that Dean Ferris vacated when he moved to Red Bull KTM in the USA. “I’m really happy to have sorted this out with Bike it Yamaha Cosworth,” said Goncalves. “Steve has a reputation for building fast bikes and the Yamaha YZ450F is something new for me to work with. Honestly, I am excited and motivated to get to work. I want to turnaround the bad luck of 2013 and I’m extremely motivated to build myself up through the season and show again my potential.”
Rui Goncalves was once a major player in the GP circuit?finishing second in the 2009 250 World Championships. Two years ago he was signed by Team Honda to ride their one-off works bike, but it didn’t go well and last year he finished 13th overall in the 450 World Championships (while struggling with injuries).
