Have you ever wondered how riders can show up on the podium wearing a number 1 jersey and hat five minutes after winning the title? The answer is simple, they print the victory gear in advance. Of course, that means that in any close points race, there is always the possibility that the losing rider’s team has printed up a large quantity of hats, shirts and jersey’s that will never be seen. Brad Lackey raced for Team Kawasaki for two years before winning his 500 World Championship on a Suzuki in 1982. Jody Weisel snapped this iconic photo of a never-seen Kawasaki victory hat in a garbage can while Andre Malherbe was still celebrating winning the title for Honda.
