THE 2014 GRAND PRIX MOTOCROSS SCHEDULE RELEASED: MEXICO AGAIN …IN SEPTEMBER …CAN YOU SAY ?MUY CALIENTE?

Youthstream is contractually required by the FIM to release next year’s GP schedule by July 1 of the year before. Surprisingly, it isn’t required to hold any of those races when it comes time to implement the actual race calendar. So, take this provisional calendar with a grain of salt.

The 2014 calendar has the first three fly-away races (Qatar, Thailand and Brazil) grouped together, but then, at the end of the schedule, is Mexico. It is unlikely that the GP teams will be willing to fly to Mexico for one round, so the To Be Announced (TBA) race the following weekend will most likely also be a fly-away race. However, the teams have expressed a desire that the final GP of every year be held in Europe.

Who is missing? Portugal and Bulgaria. Who is doubling up? Italy and Holland get two GPs. Who’s new? Hungary is new for 2014, but the track hasn’t been chosen yet. Mexico is new in two ways: (1) It was dropped from the 2013 schedule and is back for 2014. (2) It will not be at the same track as the 2012 disaster. Spain is back on the schedule after a break.
