VINTAGE MOTORCYCLES DAYS IN DANGER:

AHRMA AND AMA IN CONFLICT;
ARMA Says They Will Host And Alternative Event If Settlement Isn’t Reached

This year’s AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, held July 24-26, could be canceled, according to AHRMA, which says it’s working with insurance companies to provide event coverage for other vintage events this year. An alternative racing event is being comtemplated to replace the Mid-Ohio Vintage Motorcycle Days, according to AHRMA.

ACCORDING THE OFFICIAL AHRMA WEBSITE (www.ahrma.org):

ÿÿÿ “AHRMA is currently in the midst of discussions with the AMA to resolve aspects of our charter and sanctioning agreements that are in dispute as the result of actions taken by the AMA. Our Board Chairman, Dave Janiec, is in direct contact with the AMA Board Chairman, Stan Simpson, and both are dedicated to the best possible resolution of the issues. AMA and AHRMA have a 20-plus-year relationship that we do not want to see dissolved without exploring all options for continuing the mutually beneficial partnership.

ÿÿÿ “However, it is also AHRMA’s responsibility to have in place options for a future without the AMA, should we be unable to reach a satisfactory resolution before the April 30, 2009, mid-year deadline specified by the AMA.

ÿÿÿ “Our AHRMA staff has been working on a contingency plan to move AHRMA forward into the rest of our 2009 season without AMA sanctioning for our events should the need arise. We are working with multiple event insurance providers who are able to step in and provide AHRMA promoters with full event insurance coverage effective May 1, 2009, should the negotiation with the AMA be unsuccessful.ÿ In that case, AHRMA will sanction our own events and ensure that insurance coverage is maintained consistent with our existing requirements.

ÿÿÿ “If the negotiations are not successful, AHRMA will execute our currently scheduled national program in all disciplines, with the probable exception of our national events scheduled as a part of the AMA’s Vintage Motorcycle Days, July 24-26, 2009. There is a possibility that the annual ISDT Reunion Ride could be impacted by this change, but we are still gathering data on this event at this time.

ÿÿÿ “At this point, these are the only long-term impacts to AHRMA’s schedules that can be determined at this time. AHRMA is working on a replacement venue for the Vintage Motorcycle Days event in the instance that the dispute is not settled.”
