ÿÿ For two years the folks at One Industries have been planning to introduce their line of motocross gear. Race wear was the next logical step for One Industries, especially after One entered the helmet market four years ago. After 12 years in business, the company aims to expand their offerings across the full spectrum of motocross apparel.
ÿÿ While the gear market is quite volatile, One Industries believes that by producing high-quality gear with a different spin (a portion of each pant is made out of recycled material), they will attract a large number of consumers.
WHAT STANDS OUT? Here’s a list of things that stand out with One Industries Defcon pant.
ÿÿ (1) Fitment. One Industries made sure that the Defcon pant could accommodate both knee braces and knee pads. The four-way stretch panel in the crotch allows for more natural movement (especially when on the bike). The thigh material on the pant isn’t baggy, nor is it too tight, meaning that the Defcon will fit well for all but those with tree-trunk-size thighs.
ÿÿ (2) Sizing. The ratchet-style closure gives the Defcon pant a reasonable amount of size adjustment in the waist, made all the more useable by spot-on tailoring. Spandex is also used in the waistband, which provides a little extra give. As for the cuffs, the Defcon pants use spandex panels to fit any size legs without having excess material left over.ÿÿ
ÿÿ (3) Leather. Now that four-strokes have cornered the market on motocross bike sales, it’s imperative for pants to have leather patches extending from the knee down into the boot. Thankfully, One Industries didn’t skimp on leather, but, for our tastes, the leather pieces are positioned a little to low on the knees. This is only an issue for riders with long legs, because their pants don’t bunch up at the knees.ÿ
ÿÿ (4) Options. In their first year, One Industries decided to debut only one line of gear. While we expect numerous lines in the future, One’s Defcon gear still offers plenty of different styles. Along with the Logic (shown), there are five other options (24K, Acapulco, Robotek, Mosaic and Platinum).
ÿÿ (5) Materials. One Industries is the first gear company to proclaim that they use recycled material in their pant. The Defcon pant is constructed from 65 percent recycled polyester. If you feel good about helping the environment, you will appreciate One Industries’ green approach.
ÿÿ (6) Place of manufacture. The One Industries Defcon pant is made in Vietnam.
WHAT’S THE SQUAWK?
ÿÿ If you fall between sizes, you might want to try the pant on before buying.
One Industries Defcon motocross pant isn’t altogether different from every other pant on the market, but they did focus on key areas (fitment, leather, sizing, recycling and styling). This is one of the MXA wrecking crew’s favorite pants for 2009.
