2018 MXGP GREAT BRITAIN | MXGP OVERALL RACE RESULTS

MXGP Start_MX1_MXGP_2018_R09_RA_7483The start of the MXGP class off the Great Britain gates.

What a close race between the KTM riders of Jeffrey Herlings and Tony Cairoli for the ninth round of the MXGP series in Great Britain. The way Saturday qualifying went, it looked as if the veteran and last years MXGP champ Tony Cairoli was going to dominate both motos as he was a few seconds faster a lap. Race day, Jeffrey Herlings kicked it up a notch to match and beat Cairoli’s pace. The first moto they finished just over a second apart from each other. Yamaha’s Romain Febvre got himself back on the podium by going 5-3 for third overall.

SATURDAY QUALIFYING

Tony Cairoli MXGP of Portugal_ Agueda_ Round 5KTM’s Tony Cairoli takes the MXGP qualifying race win in Matterley Basin.

The ninth round of the MXGP World Championship is hosted in Matterley Basin, Great Britain. During Saturday’s qualifying race there was a sea of orange bikes at the front. Tony Cairoli dominated the field with his fastest lap being a 2:19.618, which was over two seconds faster than Jeffrey Herlings who was second fastest. Cairoli won the race by over 20 seconds. With Herlings pulling away in the points standing the last few rounds, it looks like Cairoli is going to make a mid-season charge for the crown. KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff finished third.
