2018 SOUTHWICK NATIONAL CRASH: ALEX MARTIN CLEANS OUT AUSTIN FORKNER

2018 INJURIES | FULL COVERAGE

Not every pass is clean. Not every pass is nice. Not every pass is for the win. But, when you make a pass attempted that has very little chance of succeeding, neither rider will end up with the win. Alex Martin needed to pass Austin Forkner to win (since they had gone 1-2 in the first moto at Southwick and were running 1-2 when the collision happened), but Alex didn’t get there in time. Unfortunately, with the win on the line, sometimes you just gotta slam on in there and hope that it works…and hope that you don’t hurt someone. This was a classic pick-up pass. What’s a pick-up pass? It’s a pass where you can’t pass the guy, but you decided to knock him down, even if you fall yourself—and then see who can pick their bike up first. Alex Martin went for it, and if it had worked, he’d be a hero, but instead it cost Austin and Alex the win—and gave it to Dylan Ferrandis.
