After a rough weekend in Arlington, Tomac was able to rebound well at round eight and reach the top step of the podium for the second time this year! Cooper Webb struggled throughout the day, but he was able to put it all back together in the last two Main Events. He went 6-2-1 to finish second overall at the Detroit Triple Crown. Cooper battled with Justin Barcia and Blake Baggett, but at the end of the race it was Cooper Webb who won with Baggett right behind him. The veteran Chad Reed had a great night in Michigan, he went 3-5-7 to grab his first podium of the year.

Eli Tomac_2019 Detroit Supercross-65Eli Tomac wins by 5 seconds over Cooper Webb.

Cooper Webb_2019 Detroit Supercross-59Cooper Webb rode much better in the second Main Event. He grabbed the holeshot and finished second behind Tomac.

Joey Savatgy_2019 Detroit Supercross-27Joey Savagty rode better in the second Main Event as well. He finished third.

Eli Tomac was the star of the first 450 Main Event. After a mid pack start he was sitting 11th on the first lap, but he put his head down and charged through the pack to take the win. This is the first time we’ve seen Tomac ride like this all year, it will be interesting to see if he can maintain this pace throughout the night. Second and third place were also a huge surprise! The two veterans, Justin Brayton and Chad Reed rounded out the podium in the first main. The Triple Crown format definitely shakes things up and it has sparked a new energy in the two veterans. Blake Baggett was fourth, Ken Roczen fifth and Cooper Webb salvaged a sixth.

Triple Crown format breakdown:

The top 18 from the overall fastest qualifying times during the day will advance straight to the main event. There will then be an LCQ that add four more riders for a total of 22 racers in the main event. During the night show, there won’t be any heat races or LCQ’s but each class will have three main events. The 250SX class will compete in three 10-minute main events, while the 450SX class will compete in three 12-minute main events. An Olympic-style scoring method will be used to determine an overall winner in each class from all three main events where the lowest combined score at the end will be awarded the overall win.
