2020 AMA OUTDOOR NATIONAL SEASON: HANGTOWN HAS CANCELED (UPDATED)
2020 LUCAS OIL PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE: MX SPORTS MAKES A STATEMENT ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
The 2020 AMA outdoor National Championship was set to begin on Saturday, May 16th in at the Hangtown Classic in Rancho Cordova, California. Sadly, the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club has announced that Hangtown has been canceled and now with just two months left until the season was supposed to begin, we are left to wonder which races will be able to run this summer. The season is approaching rapidly while, at the same time, the Coronavirus pandemic is shutting down all events, restaurants, movie theaters and more across the world. With President Trump announcing on March 16th that the government is asking people to self quarantine and stay away from other people in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus, it looks unlikely that any major events like will be able to happen anytime soon. We are still hopeful that the world will return to normal soon and we can get back to racing. In the mean time, MXA is going to be practicing “social distancing” at the track and we hope you do too! See below for the press release from MX Sports Pro Racing.
2020 PRO MOTOCROSS SEASON CORONAVIRUS UPDATES
The 2019 Hangtown National was a muddy one.
MX Sports Pro Racing stated: “As the coronavirus pandemic continues to unfold, MX Sports Pro Racing is carefully monitoring the impact of the illness across the country and recognizes the proactive measures that professional sports leagues and sporting events in the United States are taking in an effort to minimize its spread. With the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship approaching, MX Sports Pro Racing is conducting discussions with our series partners to determine what actions might be required for currently scheduled series events. Each day presents new information in regards to the coronavirus, and that newfound knowledge will be taken into consideration as we continue to prepare for the new season, as will any actions taken by local and state governments where our venues are located, or any precautionary measures issued by the national government.”
Bob Messer of The Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club stated about the cancelation of Hangtown: “With an abundance of caution for our thousands of fans and riders, and for the health and wellbeing of the members of the motocross industry who attend our race each year, cancelling Hangtown 2020 was our best course of action in light of our current situation”
