2020 ARLINGTON SUPERCROSS PRE-RACE REPORT: TOMAC & MCELRATH YOUR NEW POINTS LEADERS

The eighth round of the 2020 Monster Energy Supercross season is set to go on Saturday February 22nd, inside of the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. After his win at the sand Tampa Supercross, Eli Tomac now has the points lead for the first time this season. Going into round eight last year, Eli Tomac was fourth in the Championship, 16-points behind Cooper Webb. This year the role has shifted and now it’s Eli Tomac with the lead and Cooper Webb 11-points back. In the 250SX East class, it was Shane McElrath who dominated the first round on his new Star Racing Yamaha, but this weekend he’ll have Chase Sexton, Jeremy Martin, Rj Hampshire and more doing their best to dethrone him. MXA’s Brian Converse will be in Arlington to capture all the action. ALRINGTON SUPERCROSS TRIPLE CROWN

2020 Tampa Supercross_Cooper Webb-9601The Arlington Supercross will be the second Triple Crown of three total this season.

The Triple Crown Format is back for the second time in 2020 and Alrington is the second of three Triple Crown events this season. The final Triple Crown event will be held at the penultimate round in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 25th. It’s always interesting to see how the riders perform in the shorter three-race format. For a full breakdown on how it works, read below:

Triple Crown format breakdown:
The top 18 from the overall fastest qualifying times during the day will advance straight to the main event. There will then be an LCQ that add four more riders for a total of 22 racers in the main event. During the night show, there won’t be any heat races or LCQ’s but each class will have three main events. The 250SX class will compete in three 10-minute main events, while the 450SX class will compete in three 12-minute main events. An Olympic-style scoring method will be used to determine an overall winner in each class from all three main events where the lowest combined score at the end will be awarded the overall win.

BLAKE BAGGETT IS IN FOR ARLINGTON

2020 Tampa Supercross_Blake Baggett-9096Blake Baggett had a scary crash in his heat race at Tampa, and although he qualified for the Main Event, he didn’t race it.

After a strong third place finish in San Diego, Blake Baggett was unable to race the Main Event in Tampa after he collided with another rider on the opening lap of his Heat race. Baggett was hit hard by the bike of a third rider which resulted in a severe case of whiplash. Even after crashing, Blake charged back through the field to qualify for the Main Event. Unfortunately, after the race Blake’s neck and upper back muscles began to spasm and lock up. Blake was all checked out by a doctor on Monday and he was cleared to race this weekend’s Triple Crown in Arlington.

Rocky Moutain KTM Team Owner Forrest Butler had this personal note to add; “On behalf of our team, I would like to take this moment to actually thank and recognize our rider Blake Baggett for what has simply been an amazing streak of SX stats.  Upon starting with the team in 2017, up until this past weekends 2020 Tampa SX – Blake has amassed 57 straight 450 SX main event starts.  And though his main event start streak will reset this upcoming weekend in Dallas, Blake still qualified for the Tampa SX main event, making Blake a perfect 58 450 main event starts, in 58 attempts with his Rocky Mountain – KTM – WPS team.  Thank you Blake, and I know the best is still to come! – FB”
