2021 IRONMAN NATIONAL MOTOCROSS RECAP VIDEO: THE “REAL ELI TOMAC” FINALLY SHOWS UP
Motocross fans were finally treated to the return of Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb to a semblance of their former selves. Ironman was the first 450 AMA National that Eli Tomac has won in the 2021 season and it was Cooper Webb’s first podium appearance. It took the two stars 10 races to finally have a major impact on the outcome of an AMA National Motocross—and they did it with bravado and gumption. Webb, who has been getting good starts as of late, only to fade back as the motos progress, actually passed Dylan Ferrandis on the first lap of moto two and stayed in close contact for the rest of the moto. As for Eli Tomac, he rode like, dare we say it, Eli Tomac. He charged from the drop of the gate in both motos, but was especially powerful in moto two. The only blotch on Tomac’s and Webb’s resurgence is that the 450 field has been weakened by injuries and illness, so there was no World Class competition after fourth place as Plessinger, Wilson, Anstie, Barcia, Osborne, Cianciarulo, Anderson, Craig and Musquin were sidelined at race 10 of the 12-race series.
The 250 National was the Jett Lawrence show, especially after Jeremy Martin crashed and broke his already injured left wrist on the last lap of moto one—while chasing Lawrence down. But Martin hadn’t been in the title chase since the second round, where he injured the same wrist that he broke eight races later. The real contender for Jett Lawrence has been Justin Cooper, but for the second week in the row, Cooper was just a spectator back in fourth place, as Joe Shimoda took the runner-up spot. Lawrence, now leads the 250 title chase by 11 points with two races to go.
