2021 SOUTHWICK NATIONAL PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURED LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE

The next stop on the 2021 Pro Motocross season schedule is Southwick, home to one of the few sand tracks on the American circuit. Located in Southwick, Massachusetts, the Wick 338 is not known for its amount of jumps but is known for its amount of, well, sand. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to visit the Wick 338 last year due to Covid but we are eager to once again experience the awesome racing the technical terrain offers. So get ready as we head to the fifth round as the racers play in the sandbox and scroll down below to see what you need to know about Southwick.

HURRICANE ELSA PROVIDES TORRENTIAL DOWN POUR ON FRIDAY BEFORE THE RACE

2021 Southwick National trackThe rain has moved a lot of the soil around on Friday. It will keep the dozer operators busy trying to put the track back together. It certainly will affect the conditions, but we expect it to be close to normal by the time the gate drops.

DYLAN FERRANDIS ENTERS ROUND 5 WITH A 14-POINT LEAD

Dylan Ferrandis 2021 RedBud NationalIt wasn’t just impressive to see Dylan ride like a bat out of hell, but the top 5 in the premier class were absolutely ripping.

It may be Dylan’s rookie year on the 450, but the experienced racer is hauling it in the premier class. The Star Yamaha team has quite the power roster this past weekend with Dylan Ferrandis leading the way, Aaron Plessinger landing on the podium, and Christian Craig scoring a 5th overall. At RedBud, our very own Jim Kimball also got the opportunity to interview the Frenchman and hear what he has to say about his rookie season. If you’re interested in that CLICK HERE.

AARON PLESSINGER: “BLUE OR ORANGE, IT’S JUST WHO WANTS ME MORE”

Aaron Plessinger 2021 Redbud national-54Amidst his contract year and the best he has performed in the 450 class, Aaron Plessinger is found in a tricky situation between two of the biggest brands in Motocross.

This year alone has been the best performance we’ve seen out of Aaron Plessinger and with the contract coming to an end soon, it seems like it may not be his decision entirely whether or not he stays with Star Yamaha or moves to KTM. We asked Aaron Plessinger at RedBud what the future looks like for the number 7 in the future year, and he revealed to us that it’s a case of who is willing to put down more for the a chance to get Aaron on their team. CLICK HERE for our recent ‘This Week in MXA’ episode where Aaron gives us the low down of his situation right now.

INJURED LIST:

ZACH OSBRONE | INJURED BACK

Zach Osborne 2021 Thunder Valley NationalZach Osborne re-aggravated the back injury he sustained while training during the Supercross season at the Thunder Valley National and he is out for the summer.

JASON ANDERSON | BROKEN HAND

A bad get-off in practice would result in a broken hand. It is uncertain when he will be back.

ALEX MARTIN | BROKEN ARM

One of the gnarliest crashes in the 2021 season occurred when Alex Martin landed in a soft spot heading down Thunder Valley’s massive hill, derailing the Troll Train and leaving one of our favorite 250 vets injured and out of the season.

CAMERON MCADOO | FRACTURED TIBIA

The 31 of Cameron McAdoo was decommissioned after a very unfortunate crash during the second moto at Fox Raceway, fracturing the top of his tibia and pulling his ACL. Cameron has already begun the surgery and healing process and we’re hoping to see him back on the track.

THE SAND

There’s a lot of it.

The sand at the Wick 338 provides some seriously exciting racing as the skill comes from how well they can carry their momentum through the turns and not stuff the front tire. The racing is usually really exciting as line choice is everything, showing the riders bob and weave through the turns trying to get an upper hand and cut each other off.

If you want to some action from the last time we were at the Wick and to get idea of what the track is like, watch this 2019 recap.
