250 EAST MAIN EVENT RESULTS | 2020 SALT LAKE CITY SUPERCROSS ROUND 16 (UPDATED)
250 EAST MAIN EVENT RESULTS | 2020 SALT LAKE CITY SUPERCROSS ROUND 16
The 2020 Salt Lake City Supercross is underway and it’s the 250SX East class that is kicking off the third Wednesday of Supercross racing in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Chase Sexton currently holds a three-point lead on Shane McElrath with just two rounds of racing left to go. After tonight’s Main Event, the 250 East boys will do battle against the best from the West on Sunday in the 250 East/West Shootout and that will add to the pressure between Chase and Shane as they battle for the 250 East title. Round 16 of Supercross is also the sixth event to take place in Salt Lake City and once again we had a very track for racing. Yes, the layout is identical to Sunday’s race in multiple sections, but the dirt conditions are completely different due to the rain that fell last night which is making for better traction and deeper ruts. We also are missing the two flat hairpin corners that the riders dealt with on Sunday. Some riders loved the flat track corners and are said they’re gone while others despised them and are happy to have berms back tonight. 250 MAIN EVENT RESULTS
Supercross rookie Darian Sanayei grabbed the holeshot with Shane McElrath and Chase Sexton in second and third. Then, on the first lap both Shane and Chase were able to pass Darian and begin the battle for the lead. On lap four, after following Shane for a few laps, Chase Sexton dove inside and ran into Shane McElrath to make the pass for the lead. Pierce Brown was third with Colt Nichols fourth. With 7-minutes to go, Pierce made a mistake in the whoops and Colt Nichols was able to get around him for the podium position. Meanwhile, Sexton held a 2.7 second lead on Shane McElrath. Lap traffic was tough for both Shane and Chase as they rode through the pack, but it was Chase Sexton who preserved and came through to win the 250 Main Event and gain an extra 3-points on Shane McElrath going into the 250 East/West Shootout.

250 HEAT RACE 2 RESULTS
Colt Nichols grabbed the holeshot but Pierce Brown passed him in turn two to get out front. Then, two straightaways later Nichols got back by the rookie in the whoops. Chase Sexton was fourth early, battling with John Short the privateer on the All Sport Honda. Chase Sexton got around Short in the whoops and then he quickly got around Pierce Brown to grab second. Nichols had a healthy lead, but then he made a mistake trying to triple through the rhythm section after the start and cased the jump hard. Chase caught up to him quickly and then he was able to pass Colt on the next lap to grab the lead.
