Every since Robbie Madisson went big wave riding on a KTM, MXA’s Dennis Stapleton has been perfecting surfing on a KTM without the wave. Dennis reports that rides of up to 10 feet are possible, but the wipeouts hurt.
THE DUNLOP GEOMAX MX32 IS NOW THE DUNLOP GEOMAX MX3S
Dunlop’s Geomax tires, both the MX52 and MX32, will soon be available in 18-inch rear sizes. “We’ve had a lot of requests for 18-inch rear fitments from offroad riders who want the same performance that motocross riders get from the 19-inch rear Geomax MX series tires, so we’re making 18-inch sizes available in January, 2016,” said Mike Manning, Director of Marketing. Dunlop is renaming the MX32 to the MX3S, most likely to avoid legal entanglements with Pirelli, who also offers an MX32. The Geomax MX52 will not become the MX5S. The MX52 will available in a 110/100-18 size, while the MX3S will come in 110/100-18 and 120/90-18 sizes.

AMA TO CHANGE AMATEUR AGE RULES TO RIDE A 250 OR 450, BUT NOT UNTIL 2017
To: Competitors in AMA-sanctioned motocross events
From: AMA
Date: Dec. 11, 2015
Re: Rule changes for the 2017 season affecting minimum age requirements in motocross:
The following rule change was created through AMA Congress and approved by the AMA Board of Directors. This rule will go into effect Jan. 1, 2017. Changes for the 2017 season are reflected in red, bold type.
Chapter 1.1; Chapter A; Paragraph 6:
In motocross events, a rider must be 14 or older to ride a 250cc 4-stroke/2-stroke motorcycle. In motocross events, a rider must be 16 or older to ride a 450cc or above motorcycle.
Example: A racer who is 13 years old on the day of the event is not permitted to compete on 250cc model motorcycle. A racer that is 15 years old on the day of the event is not permitted to compete on a 450cc model motorcycle. Note: The ages will remain 12 for the 250 class in 2016 and 14 for the 450 class for 2016.

THIS IS NOT MOTOCROSS: BUT IT’S NOT NORMAL EITHER
Rafik Kaissi creates working motorcycles from junked bikes. They may not be very practical (note the seat), but Rafik loves to work with motocross engines—like the Honda CR500 two-stroke. See more at www.rkconcepts.com.
BLAKE BAGGETT TO MISS SUPERCROSS OPENER: COLLARBONE, RIBS AND SCAPULA
Blake Baggett crashed in the whoops at the Suzuki test track in Corona, California. Baggett will miss the A1 opener on January 9, 2016, but hopes to be able to return as soon as possible. This leaves the Yoshimura Suzuki team with James Stewart as their lone rider.
THIS IS NOT MOTOCROSS: EIGHT BROUGH SUPERIORS DISCOVERED IN A BARN
Just as it was discovered, this 1939 Brough Superior 982cc SS80 will be sold in this unrestored fashion.
Believed to have been destroyed decades ago, 8 long-lost Brough Superior Motorcycles were discovered in a Cornish village. They had been stored in barns for more than 50 years, the motorcycles were discovered whole, in parts, and some were partially submerged under decades of dust and old machinery parts. The bikes will be offered at Bonham’s Auctions on April 24, 2016, in England. These is the last known collection of unrestored four-cylinder Brough Superiors in the world.
T.E. Lawrence on his Brough Superior.
Brough Superior motorcycles are incredibly rare. The powerful pre-war machines were the bike of choice T.E. Lawrence, aka Lawrence of Arabia, and he was killed on a Brough Superior SS100 on May 19, 1935. Lawrence’s Brough was sold at auction in 2014 for $477,000.
MXA PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: PRO CIRCUIT KTM SHOCK COLLAR/LOCK RING
Press release:The problem with the OEM preload collar for the 2016 KTM and Husqvarna models is its plastic composition. During use, the heat omitted from the shock body heats up the plasticl. A combination of heat, dirt and thread deformation, makes tuning and adjustment the WP shocks spring rate extremely difficult. Pro Circuit’s solution is very simple. We offer a CNC-machined 6061 aluminum preload collar and a zinc-plated steel lock ring for improved durability and much easier adjustments. Discard your problematic, plastic OEM preload collar and replace it with Pro Circuit’s new preload collars to make future shock preload adjustments a breeze. Also fits on Husqvarana shocks. You have to plan ahead to use the new preload rings because on a WP shock the shock collar and lock ring cannot be removed without taking the shock apart—so pair this mod with an oil change or revalve. The retails price is $64.95. For more info call (951) 738-5080.

Do you subscribe to MXA? You should. Luckily, you can get all of MXA on your iPhone, iPad, Kindle or Android by going to the Apple Store, Amazon or Google play, but better yet get the Digital desktop version at https://hi-torque.com/product/motocross-action-digital-edition/ for $9.99 a year. The MXA test riders prefer the print version and not just because it is delivered by a uniformed employee of the U.S. Government, but because for only $15.99 you get 12 issues and a free $25 Gift Card from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. That means that there is a profit to be made in this deal for you. For the Print magazine go to: http://hi-torque.com/product/subscribe-to-motocross-action-magazine/
