2012 MOTOCROSS DES NATIONS FINAL RESULTS: CONGRATS TO GERMANY; CAIROLI AND HERLINGS ARE THE SAND MASTERS; TEAM USA GETS A DISTANT THIRD OVERALL

Marcus Schiffer, Max Nagl and Ken Roczen are the proud, happy and deserving winners.

Winner Team Germany was the most consistent team at the Motocross des Nations. They stayed on two wheels and didn’t make any big mistakes. Team Belgium was determined to win the MXDN at their home track, but in the end they came up four points short.

For Rui Goncalves the MXDN was his last ride on Honda’s works prototype. Rui has been replaced by Max Nagl at Honda. Goncalves went 12-10 to push Portugal into the top ten overall.

Team USA was fast enough to win, but they crashed, got stuck in fences and had wheels unravel. In the past it was the American team that didn’t make mistakes, while the others did. This time the forced errors fell on Dungey, Baggett and Barcia. As for the best USA scores, Barcia was third in the final moto and Bagget had a sixth in another. Dungey’s best finish was seventh, but in the other three scores they were anywhere from 9th to 14th.

As expected Jeffrey Herlings was outstanding in the sand, but he actually crashed into his Dutch teammate Marc De Reuver, in the final moto and had to start way back. In the end, Jeffrey’s 1-2 result helped the Netherlands finish fourth. Crushingly, the Dutch sand master got beat in the final moto by Cairoli?by spotting the two-moto-winning Italian a big lead.

In the second moto Blake pushed his Pro Circuit KX250F to sixth overall against 450s. Unfortunately, Ken Roczen pushed his KTM 250SXF harder and was the first 250 in fourth. Photo: Sarah Gutierrez

Justin Barcia had a weird weekend. He got stuck in a fence during qualifying and bent his front wheel in the 250/Open moto, but came back to third in the final moto of the day.

France was sitting pretty after Gautier Paulin finished second in the first moto, because Italy had no chance with Alessandro Lupino in the 250 class, but Xavier Boog and Marvin Musquin each had a bad moto.
