DAY TWO OVERALL RACE RESULTS | FULL COVERAGE

The featured event of day one of the 2018 Dubya USA World Vet Motocross Championships was the Over-40 Pro class. It had riders from New Zealand, Australia, Texas, Arizona, California, Illinois, Idaho, Sweden, Arkansas, Canada, Italy, Colorado and Great Britain. New Zealand’s Daryl Hurley, who race the AMA series for four years, with his best result being an 8th in the 125 class at Budds Creek in 2003, easily won the Over-40 Pro class at Glen Helen. Hurley was trying to pass for the lead in the first moto when his line came together with Kris Keefer and he was pushed off the track to finish second, but he came back in second moto to go wire-to-wire ahead of former Over-40/Over-50 World Champion Kurt Nicoll and Jeremy Chausse (who had DNF’ed the first moto)

Kurt Nicoll_Glen Helen World Vet 201953 year old Kurt Nicoll placed second overall in the Over-40 Pro class.

This was Hurley’s second Over-40 World Vet Championship title—he won his first back in 2016. Kurt Nicoll’s runner-up spot in the Over-40 race was significant because Kurt is 53-years-old and the favorite in Sunday’s Over-50 World Championships event. Jeremy Chausse had the speed to be a player, but his first moto misfortune cost him his shot.

Chalisee_Glen Helen World Vet 2019Jeremy Chausse DNF’ed the first moto but came back in moto two to place 3rd.

Sunday’s races will included the Over-30 Pro race (with Josh Grant as the favorite), Over-50 Pro race (with Kurt Nicoll as the favorite), the Over-60 World Championship (with six-time World Vet Champion Pete DeGraff as the favorite) and the Over-70 World Championship (with 2016 Champion Jim O’Neal as the favorite). At half-time on Sunday, when the race are stopped to prep the incredibly rough downhills, the 2018 Edison Dye Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to MXA’s Jody Weisel in the Glen Helen Museum.
