We’re happy to report that Supercross is officially back! After the 2020 Monster Energy Supercross season was postponed in March, chances for finishing out the season looked slim. Now, FELD has found a state and stadium who are willing to host the final seven rounds of the series in a quick 7-race, 22-day showdown. Round 11 will kick off Sunday May 31st and it will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah’s, Rice-Eccles Stadium as well as the other six rounds. The schedule for the final seven will be on a unique two-a-week format where the competitors will compete on Sundays and Wednesdays until the season finishes on June 21st.

As we all know, spectators will not be allowed in the stadium. Instead, NBC Sports will present the final seven, made-for-TV races across their NBC, NBCSN & platforms. If you live in the US and have the NBC Sports Gold Pass, you’ll be able to watch the races there. International viewers will Races will also be able to livestream via the Supercross Video Pass.

Coming into round eleven, the 450SX Championship point standings are close with only three-points separating Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen at the front of the pack. These two have the weight of the world on their shoulders, while defending Champion Cooper Webb is under the radar. He currently sits 29-points behind the red plate holder, but with seven rounds to go anything can happen. Other riders like Justin Barcia, Adam Cianciarulo and Jason Anderson are also looking to get on the top step of the podium before the season concludes as well.

The points in the 250 East Coast division are close as well! Only ten points separates Chase Sexton and Shane McElrath as we head to Utah. Rj Hampshire sits third in the title hunt, only 18-points behind Sexton, but sadly he will miss the final rounds. After Supercross announced it’s plans to finish in the fall, RJ went under the knife to fix a knee injury that he had previously been riding through. The early start for Supercross worked out well for just about everyone except RJ. The 250SX East division will compete this Sunday, May 31st. With seven races in 22 days, will you be doing anything different during the week to prepare?
Ken Roczen answered: “Obviously it’s going to be different just because we are racing, but we normally race on Saturday and we ride Monday anyways. But racing on Sunday and then having Monday and Tuesday off and then going back to racing, I think it’s really the perfect amount of time of rest before going back to the next races. Then obviously we have a little bit of a longer break going from Wednesday to Sunday which gives us a chance to ride in between that time as well. I don’t really think it’s going to be a problem. I think actually we might be enjoying this, and who knows in the future, maybe  there will be a similar schedule maybe for a couple of weeks or something like that and it will actually give us an off weekend further down the road. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and how all the riders and all the mechanics like it.”

Ken, you’re typically good at the beginning of the season. Do you have a strategy going into the final seven rounds like the season has restarted? Ken Roczen answered: “I think, obviously if you look at my past I am known for kind of coming out swinging. So obviously after three months or however long we’ve had this time off, you can definitely look at it like it’s a start of a new season. I think it’s cool and I’ve prepared myself really well, as well. I’m already even better than I was when we were racing earlier this year. So I’m excited to kick things off again. So I’m just trying to enjoy myself through this actually crazy time. I’m ready and looking forward to it forsure.”

Eli Tomac, obviously the break wasn’t ideal, but you had a baby during the time off. How was that? Eli Tomac answered: “Obviously it ended up working out in our favor. You know we had our baby on April 26th and that gave us the opportunity to really spend a week or two with her and in that way it was a positive, right? Otherwise we would’ve been flying back from Vegas on Sunday when she was born. So we’re super fortunate that way and just so glad that we’re back together here and that we get to finish this thing out.”

How have you been enjoying being a Dad? Eli Tomac answered:“Oh I love it, it’s a whole new perspective on life and everything. It’s as good as everyone says it is.”

Cooper Webb, you come into this final rounds 29-points back. Where is your head at right now? Cooper Webb answered: “Obviously it’s a bit of a reset, I’m 29-points down, but yeah, the plan is to come here and win. I mean, I feel like this break has been great for me. I’ve been able to heal the body, this was great timing and I’m coming here to win. The last seven, I’m 29-points back, but anything is possible, so you know I think there’s a lot going on with this schedule and a lot different than we’re used to. It’s going to be important to be on top of things. So yeah, I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be cool that we get to finish it this way and we still get to get the full series in which is super exciting. So yeah, I’m looking to come out swinging these last seven and try to crawl back to that lead.”

You rode through injury and still landed on the podium, now after 80 days of recovering, do you have extra confidence coming into the final rounds? Cooper Webb answered: “Yeah forsure, I mean it’s unfortunate crashing and obviously I wasn’t out or anything like that. But anytime you crashed and get injured it definitely sucks. So it was good to be able to have that little time off and like you said, still kind of be on the podium which is super rad. But yeah, like you said, it was definitely good timing in the series to have that time off to get back to full health and like I said, now I feel like I’m as good as ever and I’m looking forward to coming and trying to get to the top.” 

Justin Brayton, how hard is it to balance your own racing and helping your teammate Ken Roczen when you know his potential Championship could be won in 22 days? Justin Brayton said: “Honestly, it’s not really that difficult at all. The older I’ve gotten the more I’ve enjoyed to help people and really just give my time in a way that’s so much more meaningful than even like, my own results. So of course I want to do well and of course that’s my number one focus, but it is really fun to be apart of a group like we have right now at Honda and you know I really haven’t been on a team like this that has gelled so well and honestly we were talking about this the other day. I wasn’t sure how Ken and I would get along when I came to the team because we didn’t really know each other. But we’ve gelled really well and it’s been an amazing year so far. So hopefully we can cap it off with obviously me getting some good results but also Honda getting a title with Ken.”

Adam Cianciarulo, similar question as we did with Brayton. Obviously you have your own goals, but the Kawasaki team is looking for a Championship with Eli. How do you balance your goals while you’re with a team that’s fighting for a Championship? Adam Cianciarulo answered: “Yeah I mean, it’s one of those deals where, we still have seven races to go for one, for two obviously Ken and I are friends and I know Eli well, he’s my teammate and I don’t want to get in between that. You know, it’s like, may the best man win and whoever wins, wins. But it’s not like I, going into these next seven races, am thinking about. You know, I’m thinking about trying to establish myself as one of the top guys and win as many races as I can. May the best man win between them, but that’s definitely not my focus.”

With the coronavirus regulations being so wishy washy, every race could be our last race if the series were to get canceled. What does that change with your mindset lining up? Eli Tomac answered: “Really it is what you just said, it’s race by race. We’re so close right now with the three points, so really you have to treat each race like it’s our last race because there’s no breathing room for myself or Ken.”

Ken Roczen answered the same question: “Yeah, I agree with what Eli said. We’ll take it race by race, there’s no guarantees or anything. I think that’s what kind of makes this, I guess if you wanna call it fun, just because it is so different. We’re always kind of used to having a super tight schedule where things are pretty much always the same, where this is really not. So this will be something new, but I feel like I kind of thrive in this kind of environment so yeah, I’ll try my best. That’s really all of us can do and we’ll see where this thing ends up.”

Cooper Webb answered the same question:“For my sake I hope we get all seven races in, that’s forsure. It will be good for me, whatever happens happens. Obviously I’m about out of it [the Championship hunt] so it’s not as tight as it is up there. So hopefully I can just get ahead of the Championship battle and do my own thing.”


Cooper Webb is behind in the points, but now he’s healthy and he has seven opportunities to chip away at Eli’s points lead if he wants to defend his title and keep the #1 in 2021.

The covid-19 inspired schedule will be a unique one for round eleven. The riders won’t get to walk the track and the 250 LCQ will be completed before the 450SX Heat races even start.

The schedule for racing on Sunday, May 31st in Salt Lake City will be a unique one. Since there isn’t a track walk, riders will have two sighting laps before their practice and a 45-minute chance to look at the track before the first practice. Also, while they’re trying keep the number of people down in the stadium, the 250SX East riders will do their Heat races and LCQ first, then the 450SX riders will do their Heat races and LCQ. Every person entering the Rice-Eccles Stadium has to go through a covid-19 test before they’re allowed to enter the facility.

Many teams and riders drove to Salt Lake City, Utah, and brought their vehicles with them. This way they won’t need a rental car for the whole month.

The Dirt Wurx crew is working on the first layout in Salt Lake City. Although we will be racing in the same stadium for all seven rounds, the Dirt Wurx crew will be changing the track for each event.
