2022 WASHOUGAL NATIONAL MOTOCROSS VIDEO RECAP: “LIKE KISSING YOUR SISTER”

The Tomac versus Sexton bar-to-bar conflicted continued at the Washougal motocross. The two front runners in the 2022 AMA 450 National Motocross Championship gapped their chasers and engaged nose-to-tail racing for two long motos. And, in the end, it resulted in a one-two and two-one tie, with Sexton winning the rubber match in the second moto to be declared the official winner of the Washougal motocross, but Chased gained no points (and Eli lost no points) in the 450 title chase. It was kind of like kissing your sister. With four races to go, Tomac leads Sexton by 5 points (364 to 359). The Washougal draw left motocross fans drooling over what would happen this coming weekend. Sadly, nothing will happen this coming weekend or the next weekend. In fact, the AMA Nationals will take a 21-day break in the action until the next National motocross on August 20.  The intense duel between Tomac and Sexton has to stop so that the National promoters can go of Loretta Lynn’s for a couple weeks of amateur racing. What a buzz kill!

Meanwhile, in the 250 class, Jett Lawrence won again, but this time without winning a moto. And whether the 250 points leader would win at all wasn’t decided until the checkered flag fell—because Jett’s brother Hunter had won the first moto and was running fourth in the second moto. If Hunter could pass third place racer Jo Shimoda in the closing laps, his 1-3 would beat his brother’s 2-2 (not in the real world, but in the mathematical wizardry of AMA points). But Hunter couldn’t get Jo and Jett took the win with a 2-2. It should be noted that the 250 class is riddled with injuries, to the extent that three riders still in the top ten in 250 points weren’t even at the Washougal round (Levi Kitchen Michael Mosiman and Stilez Robertson). This allowed Max Vohland to leapfrog up to seventh place in the standings with a fifth-place finish.
