250 OVERALL RESULTS | 2020 REDBUD PRO MOTOCROSS NATIONAL 2
We’re back in Michigan for Round 5 of the 2020 AMA Nationals at the 2020 RedBud National #2, the second of two RedBud Nationals this season. It feels weird to be racing two Nationals back-to-back at the same venue with only two days off in between, however, MX Sports couldn’t have picked a better track to host the double header. Friday’s RedBud National #1 provided great racing and it saw Jeremy Martin go 1-1 in the 250 class to take the win and gain the points lead, while Dylan Ferrandis struggled and was only able to manage fourth overall. We’ve heard Dylan talk about his shoulder being sore from his first moto crash on Friday and with only two days to heal, it could be tough on him today. Still, Ferrandis is a fighter and he won’t give up. So who will it be? Will Ferrandis or Martin take the win or will another hotshot steal the glory at Round 5? See below for results from the 250 class as it happens.

Once again, Ty Masterpool was up front on the start and this time he was awarded the holeshot. He quickly put a small gap on Jeremy Martin who was second and Rj Hampshire who was third. Mitchell Harrison and Carson Mumford both passed Justin Cooper on the opening lap while first moto winner Shane McElrath was 14th on lap one and Ferrandis was 12th. Ty Masterpool was clearing the Larocco’s Leap and maintaining his lead because of it, then after 10-minutes of racing, he made a mistake in the corner before it and Jeremy Martin got around him. With 10-minutes to go, Justin Cooper was passed by Jett Lawrence and Dylan Ferrandis. Masterpool still held onto second with Rj Hampshire third, Mitchell Harrison fourth, Lawrence fifth and Ferrandis sixth. Meanwhile, Shane McElrath was way back in 12th. Masterpool fell in the corner after the sand rollers and he dropped to fourth moving Hampshire and Harrison up. With 5-minutes to go, Ferrandis passed his teammate Ty Masterpool for fourth place and shortly after, Masterpool went down and Jett Lawrence ran right into him and crashed as well. Both Ty and Jett were looking good for overall podium finishes. Lawrence got up in 8th with Masterpool 13th after the crash. Dylan Ferrandis made a hard charge on the last laps and passed Rj Hampshire with two turns to-go to finish second. Still, Rj Hampshire’s 2-3 scores gave him the overall with Ferrandis going 5-2 and Martin going 11-1.

Shane McElrath grabbed the holeshot with Ty Masterpool alongside him and Masterpool was once again able to get into the lead right away in turn two. Jeremy Martin was ninth on the first lap with Dylan Ferrandis just outside the top ten in 15th place after lap one. Rj Hampshire passed McElrath for second, but then he was quickly passed back by Shane. Ty Masterpool, one of the lightest riders on the track with the fastest bike on the track (Star Yamaha) was the only rider clearing Larocco’s leap which helped him gain major time on the rest of the riders. After two laps, Ferrandis moved up to ninth with Martin seventh. On lap three, Martin passed Justin Cooper for sixth, and Ferrandis passed Mason Gonzales and Justin Cooper for seventh. Just after the halfway mark, Ferrandis went for the pass on Martin for sixth place and took himself and Jeremy out coming into the corner before Larocco’s Leap. Dylan got up quickly and only lost one position while Martin dropped four positions and got up in twelfth place. Ty Masterpool led for 20-minutes, but then he tucked the front end and went down in the corner after the mechanics area and let Rj Hampshire take over the lead. Ty got up in fourth place. With just over one-lap to go, Rj Hampshire, Shane McElrath and Jett Lawrence were neck-and-neck. Rj Hampshire then made a mistake and went off the track, giving the lead to Shane McElrath. It was a battle to the wire, but McElrath would take the win with Hampshire and Jett Lawrence right behind.
