The premier class rips the Houston dirt for the third and final time for the third round of the Monster Energy Supercross season. The track layout is comparably different from the first two rounds located under NRG Stadium’s roof as the length of the lap times have been extended and more obstacles have been added. Many of the riders have preferred the new track design compared to the previous two since it allows the riding to be tighter and the racing to be more challenging. The track sported a right-hand first turn as well as an extended sand section that is considerably longer than the past weekend. We have already seen a handful of riders go down in the sand already and more is to be expected as we head into the night. Eli Tomac qualified first out of the 450 field however 1st to 20th place was only separated by a second and a half in timed qualifying. This is the closest we have seen the 450 class this season and the podium is up for grabs for any of them. Who do you think will walk away with the red plate? Will Ken Roczen beat Justin Barcia and take the points lead or will Justin Barcia land a podium finish and hold onto the red 51? Find out down below as we cover the races LIVE from Houston, Texas.

The 450 riders sitting before the gate dropped.

The gate dropped and the premier class was off with Cooper Webb taking the holeshot. Ken Roczen followed in second and Adam Cianciarilo in third with Aaron Plessinger chasing his tail. Marvin Musquin made a mistake dropping to last place. Adam Cianciarulo made quick work of Plessinger for third place and it wasn’t long until Ken Roczen caught up and made the pass for first place. Adam Cianciarulo began to put the pressure on Cooper Webb with 17 minutes remaining. In fourth place sat Aaron Plessinger, Malcolm Stewart in fifth, and red plate holder, Justin Barcia, in sixth. A battle for seventh commenced between Eli Tomac and Jason Anderson. Eli Tomac made the pass on the inside of a turn and squeezed by Jason Anderson. In tenth place Martin Davalos made a mistake letting multiple riders fly by in the sand section. With 15 minutes remaining, Ken’s lead grew to a steady 2 second lead. Justin Barcia began to put the charge on Malcolm Stewart and would be successful at taking away the fourth place spot from the #27 of Malcolm Stewart. And it wasn’t long until Malcolm had someone knocking on his door again as Eli made the approach on the Star Yamaha rider. Back in eighth place sat Jason Anderson and Zach Osborne battling for the position. Jason Anderson made the pass but Zach would catch back up and retake his position. Eli eventually passed Malcolm Stewart for fifth place, but still sat 6 seconds behind Justin Barcia. With 10 minutes remaining, Cooper Webb would make progress on the 94 of Ken Roczen and turn the multiple second lead to a 1.3 second gap. However, Ken was exceptional through the whoops and made up more time there.

The two leaders would also run into lap traffic as Ken had to dodge the slower riders. Justin Barcia made a huge mistake in the sand section and Eli Tomac would make the pass on the #51.  Justin Barcia quickly caught back up from his mistake and pass the 2020 champ for fourth place. In seventh place, Zach Osborne and Aaron Plessinger battled, but Zach was quicker through the inside of a turn and gain a position in the race. With 7 minutes remaining, Ken’s lead grew again to a 2 plus seconds. Malcolm Stewart caught back up to Eil Tomac and soon the 2020 champ had Malcolm on his tail. The top three were remarkably faster than the rest of the pack as they sat 11 seconds in front of the field. In seventh, Aaron Plessinger would take back his position from Jason Anderson. With 2 minutes remaining, Cooper Webb started to put the heat on high on the race leader as he cut the gap in half. Dean Wilson would get in Ken’s way and block Ken Roczen letting Cooper Webb take the lead. Cooper Webb won the race on the very last lap.

Marvin would make a huge comeback after falling over his in his heat race.

Adam Cianciarulo took the holeshot and the 36 of Martin Davalos chased his tail. Marvin Musquin sat in third place until getting accidentally blocked passed by Malcolm Stewart causing Marvin to fall over and knock over a few other riders. Eli Tomac got a poor start and sat in ninth place but made considerable ground on the 450 field as he sat in fourth place within the first two laps. Marvin Musquin was pushed all the way back to 19th place and made a huge charge to make a transfer spot. Justin Brayton sat in fifth and Dean Wilson sat in sixth. Eli made the pass on Malcolm Stewart for third place through the whoops and his teammate Adam Cianciarulo continued to lead the race. With 30 seconds remaining, Marvin sat 11th place, just four seconds away from a transfer position. One lap to go, Marvin was right behind Vince Friese and the two made a pass on Austin Politelli just barely letting Marvin transfer into the heat race. The sand returns, and with a vengeance?

Heat 1 took off for the 450s and Justin Barcia got a huge holeshot followed by Ken Roczen and Cooper Webb. Zach Osborne sat in fourth place and Jason Anderson sat in fifth place. Ken’s speed was much faster than Justin Barcia through the whoops but Justin was capable of blocking his pass attempts. The 7 of Aaron Plessinger sat in sixth place followed by Brandon Hartranft on the H.E.P Suzuki in seventh. Justin Barcia started to put a one and a half second gap in between the German rider and himself. Justin Barcia made a huge mistake in a turn section and left the door wide open for Ken Roczen. Cooper Webb nearly avoided Justin but did not make up enough time on the leader as Ken Roczen would take home another Heat race win.

Kyle Chisholm won the LCQ and transferred to the main event.

Joan Cros grabbed the holeshot at the beginning of the LCQ but Kyle Chisholm made short work of Cros and took the lead. Broc Tickle moved into the transfer position just behind Cade Clason in third. Broc Tickle went past Cade smoothly right before the whoops earning him the third place spot. Austin Politelli held onto the transfer position and Carlen Gardner made a last second Hail Mary pass on Cade Clason, that involved more than a little bike to bike contact to nail the last spot in the main in the final corner. Kyle Chisholm raced his own race and  win the LCQ .
