CHAD REED RACES THE LAMBORGHINI SUPER TROFEO CHAMPIONSHIP AT WATKINS GLEN

Ryan Hardwick and Chad Reed on the podium at Watkins Glen. Guess what? Spraying champagne is the same in cars as it is in bikes.

Two-time AMA Supercross champion Chad Reed co-drove with Richard Hardwick in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series this past weekend. The Supercross and National Champion is friends with Paul Miller Racing GT Daytona driver Ryan Hardwick, who won the Super Trofeo World Championship last year, and asked Hardwick if Super Trofeo was a good series to prepare for GT Daytona racing.

Chad Reed has tried his hand at test drives in Australian V8 Supercars in the past, but the Lamborghini offer came at the perfect time.

Hardwick contacted the head of Lamborghini motorsport Giorgio Sanna about giving Chad a test drive. Giorgio Sanna turned out to be a motocross fan and Chad got a shot at racing the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series in the Pro-Am class at Watkins Glen—co-driving with Ryan Hardwick. Chad had crashed at the Seattle Supercross back in March and hadn’t been riding much, but Chad was thrilled to get to race at Watkins Glen. Reed said, “I am a racer at heart, and it’s what I love to do. I’m not naive in the fact that my motorcycle racing career has to end someday and with me having this summer off, this opportunity is perfect.”

In the two-race event, Ryan Hardwick and Chad Reed in the Dream Racing/Lamborghini of Atlanta Huracan were second on the podium after Reed drove a solid first stint before handing the car over. Hardwick improved their track position and finished second to make it dual podium spots for the team over the weekend. Bruno Junqueira and his teammate Bradley Baker finished third.

For those who would like to watch the races, they will be broadcast NBCSN on Wednesday, July 10 at 6:00 p.m. EDT.
