Davi Millsap will join Cooper Webb on the factory Yamaha team for 2018. Unlike Reed, who had a Supercross-only contract with Yamaha, Davi is reportedly signed for a full season—including the AMA Nationals. Davi has not raced the AMA Nationals for several years, because of injuries or racing in Canada (where he was a two-time Champion). Davi raced Supercross in 2017 for the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM team and finished fifth—edging out Rocky Mountain teammate Blake Baggett by 1 point at the final round.
2018 will not be Davi’s first time on a Yamaha YZ450F. He raced for Yamaha in 2011 and 2012 and finished in the top ten 30 times over two seasons. Millsaps is a journeyman racer who started out as a rising star at Team Suzuki in 2004, moved to Honda in 2006, went to Yamaha in 2011, got back on Suzukis in 2013, Switched to Kawasakis in 2015 and raced KTMs for the past two seasons.
Davi had this to say about his new ride–“First of all, I’m super-excited to be racing for the Yamaha Factory team. And, to be making my Yamaha debut aboard the 2018 YZ450F is going to be awesome. I’ve been doing a lot of testing on the new bike, and it’s coming along great. I couldn’t be happier. I’m training hard for the Monster Energy Cup, and I’ll definitely be ready on October 14th. And, how cool is it that I’ll be running my signature #18 on the ’18 Yamaha in 2018? Can’t wait!”
