HONDA TO SELL ITS SECRET CALIFORNIA TEST TRACK: 4255 ACRES WITH A 7.5 MILE PAVED OVAL

Honda wants to sell its 4255-acre Mojave Desert proving grounds, says MXA, complete with 7.5-mile oval, 4.5-mile road course and support buildings. The property is located in an unincorporated area of Kern County, seven miles north of California City. It was built by Honda to test automobiles, motorcycles and ATVs.

Honda closed the facility recently to concentrate its U.S. development at its site in Ohio. The real estate agent is CB Richard Ellis. Located within two hours of Los Angeles International Airport, the site offers on-site paved test courses, dirt roads, gravel roads, a Supercross track and natural desert terrain for a full range of test conditions. The main site has perimeter fencing and a private 1.5 mile asphalt driveway leading to a security office, gated access, and the office/warehouse buildings. Privacy is achieved with man-made berms and selective plantings of non-native trees.

It is rumored that there are developers looking at the property in order to build a solar farm. It is too far away from any urban centers to be used for business or residential housing.
