Jimmy Decotis was racing in the Australian Supercross Championship until he suffered a concussion last weekend at the Toowoomba round of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship. Decotis, the defending Australian 250 Supercross Champion, will return to the USA immediately. “The team have been fantastic,” Decotis said of his Genuine Honda Racing team. “I couldn’t remember anything following the crash and I have been getting headaches. Head injuries can ruin careers and we decided that I should take as much time out as I need to recover and I need to thank the team for being so patient and understanding.”
Former Australian 250 National Champion Luke Clout will be Decotis’ replacement for the rest of the series. Americans may remember Clout because he got a fill-in ride with the MAD Racing Dirt Candy Suzuki team for injured rider Daniel Baker at the start of the 2016 AMA 250 West Supercross series. After his debut 250 West ride at Anaheim 2, Clout signed a two-year deal with the Suzuki team, and a week later in Oakland broke his femur. He did come back to race 11 AMA 250 Nationals, finishing 31st in 250 points.
Clout was told last week that the MAD Racing Dirt Candy Suzuki team has folded—making his two-year contract null and void, leaving him without a ride. The Decotis injury was an opportunity for Clout to return to Australia with a full ride. Clout said, “I am sorry to see Jimmy get hurt and I hope he recovers quickly. I want to thank the team for giving me this opportunity. I am so happy to be racing again and I look forward to lining up in Adelaide next week for round three of the Australian Supercross Championship.”
