JOSH GRANT’S TWISTED DEVELOPMENT YAMAHA YZ300 TWO-STROKE VIDEO TEST

Josh Grant likes to race the World Two-Stroke Championship. Glen Helen is his home track and in 2020 he placed fourth on a 2003 Honda CR250. Josh knew that if he wanted to win, he needed a faster stronger bike. Fast-forward to 2021. Josh wanted redemption, but the pandemic increased demand for motorcycles and getting a 2021 YZ250 in time for the World Two-Stroke Championship was impossible. That is where Twisted Development stepped in to build Josh a YZ250 with an Athena 300cc big-bore kit and Lectron carb. Unfortunately, Josh crashed in practice and couldn’t race. At the last instant Robbie Wagemen came out of the crowd of spectators and volunteered to race it. And race it he did! To the win. Which is why MXA eventually tested it. We put Josh Mosiman at the controls, because he has had success at the World Two-Stroke on KTM 300SXs, Husqvarna FC250s, GasGas MC250s and Pro Circuit-built KTM 125SXs and GasGas MC 125s. Josh felt that the YZ300 was bit sluggish off the bottom, but once the power came alive, it was incredibly fast. He could ride a gear higher through the corners, lugging the rpm to get better traction. It didn’t take any clutch work to get up and go, but it also didn’t pull your arms out of their sockets up the hills.
