KEN ROCZEN DITCHES HIS ELECTRIC START AT BUDDS CREEK! WHY?

If you look closely you will see the kickstarter on Kenny’s bike.

Factory Honda racer Ken Roczen was on fire at Budds Creek with a win in the first moto and leading most of the second. He rode great, but was it all Kenny or did the team find something in testing that made the bike work that much better? Kenny’s factory Honda CRF450 during the Budds Creek National was missing the electric starter and a kickstarter was added. But why?

We aren’t sure of all the benefits of removing the e-start, but saving about five pounds would be the obvious reason (and less rotating mass and drag from the gears that make the starter motor work). Here is what Kenny had to say about it in the Budds Creek press conference.

Ken Roczen when asked about the kickstarter: “As of right now we’re gonna do a lot of work, we have a lot of stuff set up for after the last race and obviously Des Nations, a bunch of testing and figuring some stuff out, but for right now I felt more comfortable that way so it helped me out this week for sure.”
