KEN ROCZEN PENALIZED, JUSTIN BARCIA HOLDS POINTS LEAD FOR 2021 HOUSTON SUPERCROSS 3
The 2021 Houston Supercross 2 was jam packed with surprises, battles, crashes, first time Heat and Main event wins and now, the morning after the race, it has gotten even more wild. After the 450 Main Event, Ken Roczen was our new points leader over Justin Barcia. Ken scored second at the opener and fifth at Round 2. In a normal season these results would not give him the points lead, but with the dramatic shift in results from riders all across the board, a second and fifth would’ve given Ken Roczen the lead if it weren’t for a penalty.
After the races were over, the AMA was reluctant to post the official 450 Main Event Results and the official point standings after Round 2 and they stated: “As of press time 450SX Class results had not been certified due to pending appeals with the AMA and FIM regarding flag rule infractions.”
It was made official on Wednesday morning after the race that both Ken Roczen, Jason Anderson, Vince Friese and Martin Davalos have been docked 4-points each for jumping under a red cross flag situation.
Via SupercrossLive: “Per AMA Rule 4.16.E.9.C, four riders in Tuesday’s Houston Supercross have been penalized for jumping on a red cross flag. The penalty for each rider is the loss of championship points and purse equal to two positions for that race, plus two additional points. Riders affected are Ken Roczen, Jason Anderson, Vince Friese and Martin Davalos.”
Ken Roczen’s 5th place and Jason Anderson’s 8th place finishes remain, however, their potential points earned were deducted by four. Now, instead of leading the point standings by one, Ken Roczen trails Justin Barcia, who will keep the red plate, by three points. Amazingly, this three point gap also puts Ken Roczen fifth place in the 450 Point Standings after Round 2 with Dylan Ferrandis second in points, and Justin Brayton tied for third with Marvin Musquin.
