Marc de Reuver was the 2001 Dutch 125cc champion. While he won a Grand Prix in 2003 was unable to finish the season due to a dislocated hip. Then in 2004, further head and neck injuries plagued him. In 2006 Marc won the “Red Bull Knock Out beach race.” In 2008 Marc retired for the first time, but came back to racing 2009. In 2015 Marc announced his retirement after a bad crash. Now in 2016 Marc De Reuver has announced once again that he is retiring: Here is his Instagram post (and below that is the retirement speech that he made exactly one year ago).
Outspoken and opinionated, Marc was always a unique character.
MARC DE REUVER’S 2015 RETIRMENT SPEECH.
“Not so emotional please, people I am not dead! I want to thank you all screaming out your lungs for me. I know I messed up big time many times. On and outside the track, I always came back on the highest level. This crash was too much. Can’t punish my family anymore with me laying half dead in hospital. It takes too much of them now especially for my mother. I have to think about them as well. I am not alone in this world anymore like I thought I was. Big thanks to BT Motorsport and my mechanic Tjoemel for the effort they put in those 2 years. I wanna thank my mechanics through the years, we had great and bad times together. See you all still at the track and maybe you get lucky and see me on the bike at some races. The love is where the heart is…
