TWO-STROKE SPOTLIGHT | JOHN FERRIS’ 2005 YZ125

“I am a lifetime rider and rode motocross in Michigan almost weekly during the ‘90s and ‘2000s, bringing my kids along to ride until they moved away for college.  I spent about 15 years in the motorcycle industry, leaving my automotive career after developing the Chevy Trucks sponsorship strategy with Kawasaki and AMA Motocross. Sorry about your Ford Truck deal Daryl Ecklund – it was I who brought Chevy into the sport.

“Over the years I acquired a collection of interesting bikes focusing on vintage-ish street bikes, based on country of origin – to date I’ve owned about 150 motorcycles and I work on bikes and ride street almost every day. In late 2019, I found myself with a more flexible schedule and a bit of a health scare and decided to get back to MX after a 12-year lay-off.

“Relying heavily on the wisdom provided by Motocross Action, I purchased a 2019 Husqvarna 350 equipped with all the right upgrades.  The ultimate vet bike.  This machine was a technological masterpiece – noting that none of my other bikes even have fuel injection.

“I had some great rides on the 350 but a nagging arm injury curtailed my riding and I sold it.  Truthfully, it was way more bike than I needed, anyway.  While healing up I was drawn into the MXA-fueled two-stroke movement and my interest peaked watching Ryan Villopoto rip laps on his YZ125.

“I found this minty fresh 2005 YZ125 in rural Wisconsin.  I paid a premium for it but it was virtually new and way less money than the Husqvarna. Initially, I just put a Pro Circuit pipe and silencer on it (thanks, Mitch!) but as the Midwest riding season wound down I could no longer resist the temptation to trick it out.

“As you can see I focused on anodized red for most of the hard parts upgrades to make it distinctive from most other tricked out YZs.  At the present, I have exhausted all sources of red parts and have not yet made any true performance mods other than the Pro Circuit pipe.  Plus, at 61 years old, I know my limits on the track.

“Hope you enjoy. You can see my other bikes and collection at: www.finecollectiblemotorcycles.com.” —John Farris

ADAM CIANCIARULO CONFIRMS BROKEN COLLARBONE

Adam Cianciarulo crash 2021_Orlando_Supercross_2-66

While riding in 2nd place in the 450 Supercross Main Event at the second Orlando Supercross round, Adam Cianciarulo changed his line in the whoops and get kicked over the bars. This crash resulted in a broken collar bone for Adam. The whoops were very treacherous. They were cupped out, rutted and had big kickers in them. Adam didn’t give much information in regards if he is getting his collarbone plated or letting it heal on its own. We are going to guess Adam will be healing up for 4 to 6 weeks, maybe longer to get his strength back. He could possibly be back by the Atlanta or Salt Lake City rounds. Or he and his factory Kawasaki team might decide to wait until the Nationals start to come back to be 100 percent healthy. Watch the crash of Adam in the highlight video below. Fast forward to 2:23 to skip straight to the crash.

Instagram will load in the frontend.
