Just off a gut-wrenching loss to Jason Lawrence in the 250 West Supercross title chase in 2008, Ryan Dungey put the past behind him and prepared for the 250 Nationals. He would battle Ryan Villopoto, and win three races, but lose the title. It would all change in 2009.
