HUSQVARNA WILL FIELD A GP TEAM IN 2014

Pit Beirer.
Photo Ray Archer

Don’t expect a big team, but KTM’s Pit Beirer told MX Large that there will be a Husqvarna motocross team in the 250 GP’s next year (and Beier ought to know since he runs KTM’s racing program). Berier says that the new Husky team will not be expected to win the GP’s, but they expect to sign riders who will make the top ten. Beirer also said that Husky will be its own brand?not to be confused with new owner KTM (and that the bikes will probably still be produced in the Varese, Italy, factory as opposed to at KTM’s factory in Mattighofen).

AN AUSSIE GOES TO SUICIDE MOUNTAIN

This telephone pole is the only visiual marker left to signify where the track wet up Suicide mountain. Dan Alamangos stands proudly next to it holding a tearoff he found on the ground.

Growing up in a motocross obsessed family in Australia, the Alamangos brothers dream of moving to America and racing at Saddleback Park. Over time three of the “Alamangi” made it to the USA to race, but only one came in time to ride at Saddleback. To make up for what he missed, Dan Alamangos took a trip to Saddleback last Sunday, hopped the fence and climbed to the top of Suicide Mountain?the most feared obstacle in motocross history…and he snapped a few photos with his cell phone.

Back in 1977, when the new starting gate was poured on the High School track, someone took the time to write the date in wet cement.

For the Saddleback specialists, who spent their lives at Saddleback, any artifact from the place brings back memories. Saddleback closed in 1984.

Dan had an old map of Saddleback to guide him on his journey.

AMERICAN SUZUKI IS NO MORE! ALL HAIL SUZUKI MOTOR OF AMERICA!

As of March 31, American Suzuki Motor Corporation is no more. However, it has been replaced by Suzuki Motor of America. The reason for the name change was that American Suzuki declared bankruptcy and under court protection they have been reformed and renamed as Suzuki Motor of America.

ASK THE MXPERTS: KTM 250SXF WIRE SCREEN REMOVAL

Dear MXA,
Can I remove the spark arrestor screen from my 2013 KTM 250SXF. I don’t ride it on trails, only on racetracks? What is the best way to remove it?

Although there is a screen in the end cap of the 2013 KTM 250SXF, it is not a spark arrestor. It is a sound deadening device. We removed ours with a Dremel?well, actually, we had Mitch Payton remove it for us with his Dremel. To tell the truth, no test rider felt any difference in the power.

USED IT, ABUSED IT,TESTED IT & LOVED IT: KTM POWERPARTS 280Nm DIAPHRAGM CLUTCH SPRING

The stock KTM 450SXF Belleville clutch washer is rated at 250 Nm. It works decently, but most MXA test riders have complained that it isn’t as hooked up as it could be. KTM never listened to MXA’s complaints, but when Ryan Dungey complained, they got right on the case. Now Dungey’s 280 Nm Belleville is being offered as an accessory through the parts department. That is trickle down engineering at its best.

VERDICT: If you own a KTM 450SXF and race it, you need KTM PowerParts Belleville 280 Nm washer. We expect this stiffer clutch spring to come stock on the 2014 KTM’s

DIGITS: $50.00?your friendly local KTM dealer and don’t leave until he finds the Belleville washer. It comes stock on the 2013 KTM 450SXF Factory Edition, so if he can’t find it in the accessory catalog, he can get it from the Factory Edition parts book.
