USED IT, ABUSED IT, TESTED IT: THINK TECHNOLOGIES LITE SEAT FOAM

The factory teams have been using these ultra-light seats for several years. Now they are available to the public. Kudos to Think.

VERDICT: Our stock 2014 KTM seat foam weighed 1 pound. The Think KTM seat foam weighed 3 ounces. The Think foam was 13 ounces lighter. You read that right! Although Think Lite foam is expensive at $260?it is cheap when compared to how much it would cost in titanium bolts to save that much weight.

DIGITS: $259.95 (seat foam and two Ti seat bolts), $289.98 (with hump), $49.99 (Think seat cover), $349.95 (carbon fiber seat base)?www.thinktechnology.us or (949) 444-4916.

NEW PRESIDENT OF KAWASAKI USA NAMED ? OLD PRESIDENT GETS KICKED UPSTAIRS

KawasakI USA has announced that Masafumi Nakagawa will succeed Takeshi Teranishi as president of the company, effective April 1, 2014. Nakagawa, who spent six years at KMC’s Irvine headquarters in the late 1990s, will transition to his new position while Teranishi assumes the presidency of Kawasaki Motors Corporation Japan.

CHAD HAS SHOULDER SURGERY: OUT OF SUPERCROSS FOR 2014

Chad’s hospital portrait.

Chad’s amazing 2014 season is over as far as Supercross goes. He plans to be back for the AMA Nationals. Who will replace Chad at Two Two Motorsports? Look below.

DEAN WILSON TO REPLACE CHAD REED AT INDY THIS COMING SATURDAY

Dean Wilson at Milestone getting used to Chad’s KX450F

Chad tried to hire Dean a couple years ago, but couldn’t get the budget from Honda. Now that he runs his own team and Pro Circuit’s Mitch Payton is largely responsible for Chad’s Kawasaki program, it is not a stretch that Mitch would lend Dean to Chad?at least until the 250 West starts back up. Chad will come to races as the team owner while he waits for his shoulder surgery to heal. Wilson will race his first-ever 450 Supercross at Indy on Saturday.

Dean said, “I know Chad pretty well and I got the phone call last Saturday after he decided that he wasn’t going to be racing. It was a pretty cool phone call to get that he wants me to race his bike! I’ve wanted to do the 450 rounds on the East coast just to keep racing because I feel like I’m riding pretty well at the moment. Mitch (Payton) and Reid (Nordin, Kawasaki race team manager) were really supportive of this move, as well as the other team sponsors. I just want to mix it up with the boys and have fun. There is no pressure so it should just be some good racing and some good experience for me.”

Why would Chad want to put a rider on his bike, when in the past he has let his bike sit? (1) Kawasaki could have asked him to, but that is unlikely because they are currently letting Jake Weimer’s bike sit. (2) Chad is friends with Dean Wilson and may want to try to give Dean a leg up in future contract negotiation when Dean is ready to go to the 450 class full-time. (3) Some sponsors have clauses in their contracts that require the bike to be on the track?regardless of who rides it. They want to see their logos at the races that they paid for. If Discount Tire has such a clause, it would require Two Two Motorsports to field a fill-in rider or face stiff monetary penalties. In the past, other teams have had to kick-back as much a $50,000 a week for every week that the team couldn’t field a full roster.
