MXA’S AMA RULE OF THE WEEK: FASHION IS AS FASHION DOES

This rule effectively tells the rider what he can and can’t wear (as far as jerseys go), how big his number must be and that he must have the AMA Pro Racing logo on his jersey.

Former AMA 125 National Champion Ron Lechien (above) shows how he beats the long-sleeve jersey rule. Ron slid his long sleeves up above his elbows. However, in most of these cases an eagle-eyed AMA official would catch Ron on the starting line and make him roll the sleeves down. As for the AMA logo on the jersey, World Road Racing Champion Kenny Roberts, as both a racer and team owner, told the AMA that sponsors pay $100,00 for logo placement and he had no intention of wearing an AMA Pro Racing Logo for free. But, he had no choice.
