FIRST BIG WIN! GASGAS CRACKS THE MXGP CODE WITH THEIR FIRST-EVER GRAND PRIX WIN
Glenn Coldenhoff gave GasGas its first ever MXGP victory with a 2-1 performance Kegums, Latvia, and proved once again he is a potential contender for the abbreviated and delayed 2020 450 World Championship.
Glenn Coldenhoff said, “What can I say? It was a great day! After qualifying we made some adjustments to my bike’s suspension and it really paid off in the races. The Standing Construct team have worked hard during lockdown to keep improving our bikes on the starts and it clearly showed today. I started second in moto one. I nearly had the holeshot and then I took the lead on the third lap. After a few laps there was a big rock in the rut I was in, which I hit, and it knocked me off balance just before the wave section. I rejoined the race quickly and made another charge towards the end, but it was too late. I finished in second place, which was really good after a not so great qualifying. Moto two saw another great start. This time I took the holeshot! It was a tough race though, especially during the final laps, but I’m really happy to have won for myself and the team, especially as it’s only the third MXGP for GasGas. It’s just awesome.”
FIRST BIG WIN! KTM CRACKS THE MOTOGP CODE WITH THEIR FIRST EVER WIN
At the Czech Republic Moto GP Grand Prix Brad Binder, in only his third MotoGP races, took the KTM RC16 to a clear victory—the first MotoGP win for KTM and for the South African rider. Brad Binder said, “I’m lost for words. I’ve dreamed of this since I was a little boy and today it came true. It is amazing to win my first MotoGP. Thank you to everybody who supported me, and the whole team: they put an insane motorcycle beneath me today! I didn’t know if we could win, but I knew we would have a go. It was the craziest ten laps of my life at the end. I was being as soft as I could. It was incredible. Unbelievable.”
Pit Beirer, KTM’s Motorsports Director, said, “For KTM this is an unbelievable day. It’s historic for our company and for the whole team, but of course for Brad Binder; who has believed in us and our project for many years. Today is payback for so much hard work. We knew we had a better bike for this year and this did not happen by accident. It came from everything we learned during the last years with Dani Pedrosa, Mika Kallio and the test team who worked and developed for over a full year to have this bike now. At the end of the day you need a fantastic rider to put the bike on the top step and Brad did it today, and in the same style as he won Moto3 and Moto2 races for us.”
90TH BIG WIN! TONY CAIROLI BEATS ALL THE KIDS IN LATVIA …ON A WEDNESDAY
Tony Cairoli has had an amazing career. He has won the World Motocross Championship nine times, but his last title was in 2017 and he has suffered injuries that hampered him a of late. But, at the second race of the 2020 Latvian trio, Tony won the first and came back rom a fall to get fourth in the second moto. That was good enough to give Tony the overall win. It was Cairoli’s 90th Grand Prix victory.
IT’S HERE! DAVE MILLER MEMORIAL FACE MASKS BACK IN STOCK
So many people have continued to request the Scott Face Mask that Curt Evans (the artist behind the project) and Jimmy Mac produced to help famous tuner Dave Miller in his fight with cancer. They sold out the first batch of masks in record time, but have produced a new production run. They are just two motocross guys trying to help out the family of a friend. Here is Curt Evan’s message and how you can get a few masks.
“Wow! Thanks so much for your interest in the Scott Face Mask and helping out Dave Miller’s family, ” Said Curt. “We appreciate your patience. We didn’t think the response would be so great after our initial run of over 400 masks allowed us to donate over $3500 to help Dave’s family! (Unfortunately, Dave lost his battle with cancer on May 22, but his family still needs our help, so we are not stopping our efforts to lessen their burden). The masks are $20 each for anywhere in the USA. Sorry, no foreign orders at this time). This includes shipping through the U.S. Mail. You can PayPal the money or send a check. Drop me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll get you the details. The masks are back in stock and ready to ship. Moto people are the best!”

THE FACTS ABOUT THE 2020 AMA NATIONAL TV PACKAGE
Note that Washougal, which was the second race of the abbrieviated 2020 AMA National schedule is gone and in its place in a second Loretta Lynn National.
Compared to the Supercross TV package, the 2020 AMA National TV is weak. Of the 9 AMA Nationals, 7 of them are tape delayed to later in the day or, in the case of two events, the next day. That means that only two events are shown live (and then only the second motos). In fact, the only place to see the any first motos is on MAV TV—which is owned by series sponsor Lucas Oil.
1. Loretta Lynn National second motos will be shown on tape delay on NBC (12:00 p.m. Eastern) or NBC Sports (12:00 a.m. Eastern) the next day.
2. The Washougal National has been canceled, but it will be eplaced y another Loretta Lynn Nationala we think the TV schedule will be the same (second motos be shown on tape delay on NBC Sports the next day —12:00 a.m. Eastern).
3. The Ironman National second motos will be shown on tape delay on NBC Sports on the same day (7:00 p.m. Eastern Time).
4. The Red Bud National second motos will be shown on tape delay on NBC Sports on the same day (10:00 p.m. Eastern Time).
5. The Red Bud National #2 second motos will be shown “live” on NBC Sports on Monday, September 7 (3:00 p.m. Eastern).
6. The Millville National second motos will be shown on tape delay on NBC Sports on the same day (11:30 p.m. Eastern).
7. The Jacksonsville National second motos will be shown on tape delay on NBC Sports on the same day (10:30 p.m. Eastern).
8. The Thunder Valley National second motos will be shown on tape delay on NBC Sports on the same day (7:30 p.m. Eastern).
9. The Pala National second motos will be shown “live” on NBC Sports (6:00 p.m. Eastern).
• MAVTV will show all of the first motos live on the day of the race (if you get MAVTV), but they don’t show any second motos and no other network shows the first motos.
• NBC is only scheduled to show one race on the parent network and that will be the second moto of the 450 class only on Sunday, August 16 at noon.
• There will only be two “live” shows on NBC Sports and those will be of the second motos only from Red Bud on Monday, September 7, and Pala on Saturday, October 10.
• The is no doubt that the TV schedule is design to drive motocross fans to purchase the NBC Sport Gold streaming package for $54.99.

MXA MOTO CHALLENGE: CAN YOU NAME THIS RIDER?
MXA TEAM TESTED: DECAL WORKS GRAPHICS GUARDS
DeCal Works rose to fame producing custom-made graphics kits that were previously unavailable to the average motorcycle racer. They made their customers’ bikes look good. Imagine how they felt when they saw how ragged their graphics got after they got worn out, rolled up and peeled away by the riders’ boots. DeCal Works clear plastic graphic guards protect your side number plate graphics from ugly wear and tear.
Although you may have seen graphics guards advertised by both DeCal Works and Polisport Plastic, don’t be confused. They aren’t fighting over who came up with the idea first. Why not? Because DeCal Works’ Ron Joynt thought up the product and got a U.S. patent on it back in 2012. DeCal Works and Polisport came up with a partnership agreement in which Polisport would manufacture the graphic guards for DeCal Works if they could sell them on a royalty basis also. The Polisport and DeCal Works products are identical.
On most modern motocross bikes, the rear number plates extend to where the subframe attaches to the frame. The side panel is then covered with a vinyl number-plate background. The problem lies where the rider’s boot meets the front edge of the side number plates. Even though the side number plates are often as high as 10 inches above the footpeg, the constant movement of the rider’s feet frays the vinyl graphics. Not only do the number-plate graphics get torn, the sticky glue interacts with the rubber sole of the boot and leaves big black marks.
When faced with rolled-up graphics on the front edge of their number plate, most motocross racers cut the rolled-up portion off with a razor blade. And, as it continues to roll up, they cut more and more of the vinyl decal away.
DeCal Works graphic guards are like sneeze guards at a salad bar. They are small, clear, molded pieces of plastic that encapsulate the area where your boot hits the vinyl number plate. The plastic layer never lets your boot touch the vinyl, thus the vinyl never tears, rips or rolls up. And since the graphics guard is clear, it allows the color of the graphics to show through.
On KTM models, the left-side graphic guard made it difficult to get the airbox cover open. Our first solution was to leave the left-side graphic guard off, because most of the wear and tear is on the right-side panel; however, when we decided to run the left-side graphics guard, we found it necessary to trim off the offending piece of plastic with a Dremel. Problem solved.

MXA RATING: MXA test riders like their bikes to look put-together, not frayed and ragged. If you are like us, you will like DeCal Works’ graphic guards.
