• THE BSA GOLDSTAR IS BACK…FROM AN UNLIKELY SOURCE

Although made in India, it does a remarkable job of recreating the iconic British marque.

BSA is back! The iconic British marque has risen from the ashes with a brand-new BSA Gold Star 650 single, set to arrive in dealers in March 2022. It is the first bike to come out of Mahindra’s 2016 acquisition of the BSA name. The mid-sized retro roadster has been developed in the Great Britain and is set to begin production in India in January. Mahindra acquired BSA in 2016 as part of a moved to lock-down classic motorcycles names—they gave hem the rights to BSA and Jawa. The 2022 BSA Goldstar was inspired by the M24 and DB34 Gold Star models. Plus it comes with the traditional BSA logo on the tank. The new BSA is powered by a 652cc, single-cylinder, DOHC engine, producing a claimed 45-horsepower at 6000 rpm.

The new BSA is powered by a 652cc, single-cylinder, DOHC engine, producing a claimed 45-horsepower at 6000 rpm (it was built in collaboration with Rotax). It sports cylinder fins, that are just decoration to remind people of the original air-cooled Gold Star, because the 2002 model is water-cooled. BSA say the new Euro5 emissions-legal engine is tuned to pull from as low as 1800 rpm – making life easy for pleasant rides down country lanes.

Just in case you’re not old enough to remember what a BSA Goldstar looked like, here is a 158 BSA Goldstar DB34.

The tubular steel dualcradle chassis is supported by a set of 41mm non-adjustable forks, plus five-stage preload-adjustable twin shocks. The new Goldstar rides on an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. Brake are by Brembo with a 320mm front rotor and 255mm rear with two channel ABS.

• MXA AD OF THE WEEK: KEN ROCZEN’S FAREWELL WIN FOR KTM

In 2014 Ken Roczen was preparing to leave the Red Bull KTM team and go to Suzuki. Ken’s victory in the 2014 AMA 450 National Championship was a bonus for KTM, but they didn’t miss him for long. Even though Ken would win the 2016 450 National Championship for Suzuki, KTM would enjoy Ryan Dungey’s 2015 450 National Championship and 2015-2016-2017 AMA Supercross titles.
