FRANCE WINS 2015 MOTOCROSS DES NATIONS

Regardless of what nation you supported, the 69th Motocross des Nations in Ernee, France, was a great race btween France and the United States—not so much for the rest of the world. Team France’s Gautier Paulin, Marvin Musquin and Romain Febvre defended their 2014 Chamberlain Cup against an American team of Justin Barcia, Cooper Webb and Jeremy Martin.

France, on the riding of Romain Febvre, who went 1-1 in his two motos, defeated America by 2 points. No other country was ever in contention as the third-place Belgian team was 40 places behind the second-place Americans. In fact, fourth place Estonia was 50 places behind.

MOTO ONE: 450/250 COMBINED

Justin Barcia and Marvin Musquin had an epic duel in the first half of the moto as they battle for the lead. The French fans were tooting the AMA-based Musquin, but he crashed over a jump at the bottom of the track. Musquin only lost two places as Russia’s Evgeny Bobryshev and Germany’s Max Nagl took over the second and third positions and rode it home unchallenged. Musquin was fourth (and first 250 rider) in front of Jereyy Martin, who had defeated the Frenchman over 12 races for the AMA 250 National Championships.

New Zealand’s evergreen Ben Townley was sixth ahead of the second Frenchman, Gautier Paulin.

MOTO TWO – 250/OPEN COMBINED

Cooper Webb grabbed the holeshot with Dean Wilson and France’s Romain Febvre behind him. Febvre got Wilson quickly, who was racing for two-man British team that lost Max Ansti to a broken shoulder blade on Saturday, and went by Cooper Webb soon after. Webb stuck with Febvre, but tipped over avoiding a lapped rider.

Webb’s stayed in second place, whil the battle for third raged between Belgium’s Jeremy Van Horebeek and Marvin Musquin. Van Horebeek couldn’t hold off Musquin for third. Van Horebeek was fourth with Jeremy Martin fifth.

Nations top ten: USA, France, Estonia, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Australia, Germany, Sweden.

MOTO THREE – 450/OPEN COMBINED

Sweden’s Fillip Bengtsson and New Zealand’s Ben Townley got to the front early, Evgeny Bobryshev, Ken De Dycker and Romain Febvre followed them.

The Americans, Justin Barcia and Cooper Webb, were buried in the pack, while Febvre past Townley for the lead. Townley, although retired, held on to finish second in the moto.

Barcia and Webb hooked up and in sixth, but Webb stalled briefly Barcia headed for the front of the pack, but he only managed to pass Gautier Paulin and Evgeny Bobryshev to get to third. Webb was in sixth.

THE FINAL SCORE

Team USA came within two places of tieing France. Justin Barcia won the 450 class. Romain Febvre won the Open class and Marvin Musquin won the 250 class. Martin and Webb were second overall in their respective classes.
