We wish Jett and Hunter well, they aren’t the only riders to have ever ridden a wave of success to the point of silliness, but just like the riders who came before, eventually their on-track performance will force them to reevaluate their blatant plubic relation antics. Think about the teenage stars of the 1970s, back then the sport sold one million dirt bikes a year—not the shadow of dirt bikes that are sold today. Plus, a wonky weekly streaming TV show can’t match the power of that one “Wide World of Sports USGP” airing every year that was watched by 30 million viewers.

The Lawrence brothers will learn how to develop a public personna that enhances what they do on the track instead of diminishing it — except for the fan boys. Then they will know what made Marty Smith, Johnny O’Mara, Ricky Carmichael, Gary Jones, Tony D, Ricky Johnson, Jeff Ward and Jeremy McGrath loved in the sport.
