MXA’S WEEKEND NEW ROUND-UP: OTHER ODDITIES, ORANGE MINIS & MORE

AT A GLANCE: 2015 AMA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Ryan Dungey (5) couldn’t touch Eli Tomac at Hangtown or Glen Helen, but when Tomac hit the ground in Colorado, Dungey took the win. This is Dungey on Glen Helen’s now-famous rock uphill. That’s the rock to Dungey’s left.

KTM COMMITS ALL ITS RIDERS TO THE USGP IN SEPT.

KTM will send all of its US-based riders to the USGP and that means that Husqvarna will do the same thing. That means Dungey, Musquin, Hill, Short, Brayton, Durham, Nelson, McElrath, Anderson, Davalos, Osborne, Bell and Pourcel; plus, they challenge Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki to do the same thing.

MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK IS OUT AFTER THIS YEAR: WHO’S NEXT?

Bones Bacon (right) tries to spot his riders in the uniquely horizontal dirt of Utah.

According to the Salt lake City Tribune: The Tooele County Commission is searching for a new operator of the Miller Motorsports Park. With the Miller family set to stop operating the track and its facilities at the end of October, the county is keen to find a new business partner to lease the 500 acres of land to. “Our major interest is to enter into a partnership, whether that be an outright sale or a lease” with an entity whose “core competency” is running a facility like the one the Millers are abandoning, said County Commissioner Sean Milne. While the county has had some interest in the race track and its facilities, only a handful of the interested parties have shown the capability of running a business like Miller Motorsports Park, explained Milne. The Miller Motorsports AMA National will still be held on August 15, 2015, but the AMA National promoters are looking for a new track to move the date to for 2016— hopefully, it will be a true-to-life motocross track that replaces Miller’s road race infield. The new track will reportedly be in the Midwest (not Florida, Alabama, Georgia or Mississippi).

BYE BYE OSSA! AGAIN

The 1976-1/2 Ossa 250 GP II.

Last year Ossa was purchased by Gas Gas. It was a sweetheart deal that looked like it would save Ossa from going out of business. Sadly, Gas Gas has now filed for bankruptcy protection and will take Ossa down with it.

The actual, true-to-life, Ossa Monocasco road racer. Do they look anything alike?

The bike that Ossa thought would put them on a map — a fuel-injected, backwards-cylinder, two stroke offroad bike.

This may be the only Ossa you’ll be able to buy in the future.

RICH STUELKE’S PHOTOS OF THE WEEK

Perhaps the most talked about section of AMA National track in history, Glen Helen’s two steep natural terrain climbs shocked the young AMA Pros who knew nothing about motocross history. Eli Tomac seemed to know what to do as he floated over both of them.

However, it was possible to do the “float” thing all wrong.

CURRENT 250/450 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

Max Nagl (12) still leads the 450 World Championship by 19 points over Tony Cairoli. Clement Desalle fell from second to third in the points chase after dislocating his shoulder in France and failing to score any points. Desalle is now 41 points back.
