GLENN COLDENHOFF LEAVES SUZUKI FOR KTM IN 2016

GLENNCOLDENHOFF20daGlenn was the third wheel at Team Suzuki this year, now he will be the second wheel at Team KTM.

KTM Motorsports and the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team are pleased to announce that Dutch rider Glenn Coldenhoff will join the team as of the 2016 season. He will be Tony Cairoli’s teammate. This year Coldenhoff won his first-ever 450 GP at the Latvian round.. KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer: “We are very confident that Glenn will be a valuable addition to our MXGP lineup. He is a rider of talent and potential, qualities we always watch out for when recruiting for our senior motocross team. We believe Glenn will make a strong contribution and we look forward to him racing for plenty of podiums.” And to put a period at the end of Coldenhoff’s time at Suzuki, two of his bikes were stole from the Suzuki team van in at a hotel in Thionville, France, on Tuesday night. Suzuki is offering a free RM-Z450 to information leading to the return of the bikes.

ONE UNDENIABLE MOTOCROSS DES NATIONS FACT…ACTUALLY, MORE THAN ONE

mxdn2009dunbeyweimertedescoThe winning 2009 team of Ryan Dungey, Jake Weimer and Ivan Tedesco.

Of the 67 Motocross des Nations events that have been held since 1947, Team USA has the most wins. It should also be noted that Team USA has only competed in 38 of the 67 years. Out of the 38 MXDNs, Team USA won 22 times—included in that list are a 13 straight year win streak (1981-1993) and a 7-year win streak (2005-2011). Of Team USA ‘s 38 results, the team has won 22 times, made the top three 30 times and has only failed to make the top five 3 times (1972, 1975, 1997). If last year’s MXDN winner (France) keeps on winning they will tie Team USA’s win record in 2035.

WHAT THE MXA WRECKING CREW IS UP TO THIS WEEK

Barcia_Bike_TestJohn Basher and Daryl Ecklund went to the Joe Gibbs race shop in North Carolina to test Justin Barcia’s JGRMX Yamaha YZ450F.

_MG_5103Before heading for JGR, Daryl Ecklund took time to shoot his buddy Johnny Jelderda testing Andrew Short’s BTO KTM 450SXF on Monday. Then, Daryl handed the camera to Johnny and did the riding.

shortair29Andrew Short raced with WP’s air shock all year. He had no failures and neither did we—except for ripping Andrew’s graphics.

20150831_093215Andrew Short’s bike uses 52mm WP AER four-chamber forks. These are not the air forks that KTM is putting on their 2016 European models, but instead the air spring version of the 52mm coil spring Cone Valve forks that Ryan Dungey uses.

ktmshowaWhile Basher and Ecklund are hob-nobbing back east, Jody and Dennis Stapleton stayed home, which is a code word for Glen Helen, to test Showa SFF Air A-Kit works forks on a KTM. We have already spent two days testing and had three test riders race it. We will try some new valving this week and race it again on Saturday.

ktmhuskyThe MXA wrecking crew is nothing if not curious, so we laid our 2016 Husqvarna FC450 side panel up against our 2016 KTM 350SXF to see what the differences were.

MEMORIES OF THE WAY WE WERE

davidkawasakibaileyMost motocross fans remember David Bailey as a Factory Honda racer, but in truth he raced the AMA Nationals on Bultacos in 1979 and Kawasakis in 1980-81 (before he signed with Honda). This is David in 1980 on an air-cooled, KX250 Uni-Trak.

MXA AD OF THE WEEK: THE FLAK JAK

2015 MOTOCROSS DES NATIONS TEAMS

MXDNernee

When Italy named it’s 2015 Motocross des Nations team, everybody in the sport just stood back in silence. No Cairoli. No Phillipaerts. No Guarneri. No Lupino. Instead the Italian team will be Samuele Bernardini (24th in 250 GP points), Michele Cervellin (11th in EMX 250 points) and Ivo Monticelli (19th in 250 GP points). However, every team has issues. AMA Champion Ryan Dungey refused to race the MXDN this year. Kevin Strijbos, Clement Desalle and Ken DeDycker are all injured for Belgium. Ken Roczen says he won’t race on the German team because he wants to heal up from minor surgery on August 31. Luckily for Germany, Max Nagl has recovered from his broken ankle and is back racing. Arnaud Tonus is signed up for the Swiss team, but hasn’t raced much in 2015 because of a lingering illness (they already named an alternate to take his place just in case). Davy Pootjes has been replaced on the Dutch MXDN team by Nick Kouwenberg. Ken De Dycker, who has spent most of the 2015 season injured, will replaced Kevin Strijbos on Team Belgium. No matter how you look at it, it’s hard to imagine a Motocross des Nations without Cairoli, Dungey, Desalle, Stribos or Roczen, but get used to it. Here are the teams named so far.

The retail prices will be as follows:

asteriskcellside
Ultra Cell – $499.99 (pair)
Cyto Cell – $389.99 (pair)
Germ youth brace – $199.00 (pair)

By dealing directly with Asterisk you get complete access to their customer service and tech departments, plus you don’t have to deal with a middle man.
