THE GREATEST GP PRESS RELEASE OF ALL-TIME
An aerial view of the Mexican Grand Prix layout.
The typical MXGP press release is full of ballyhoo, exaggeration and hype. The Youthstream press release for this week’s Grand Prix of Mexico seemed to be just the opposite:
(Leon, Mexico), 09 September 2015 – For the second year in succession the best riders in the world will race between the Mexican cacti at the circuit of Leon, a soil based track, which is hard to describe, as it is neither soft nor hard, the only feasible description, based on how it shaped up last year, is that it is slightly clumpy and gets relatively rutty in places.
RIDER LIST: WHO WILL BE AT THE USGP
The 1972 USGP was jam-packed with World and National Champions.
This USGP rider list was from the 1972 USGP at Carlsbad. The list of GP stars is expected, but reading the American names is like a trip down memory lane. Mark Blackwell, John DeSoto, Marty Tripes, Mike Runyard, Jim Pomeroy, Wyman Priddy, Jimmy Weinert, Gary Jones and Rich Thorwaldson ring the bell.

THE LAST OF A DYING BREED — LEATHER BOOTS
Anyone who was anyone in the early days of motocross wore Hi-Point Champion boots. In a later incarnation they were known as Alpinestars Super Victory boots — and Alpinestars still offers them. No one wears leather boots today. Oops, we forgot about the two veterans of the MXA wrecking crew, both of whom date back to the early days of MXA and motocross. They both still wear the same boot they wore in 1976 (well, not the exact same boots, but the same brand)

TRIUMPH HIT WITH BIG NHTSA FINE
No motorcycle company is immune to NHTSA recall notices — not even Triumph..
Triumph has been hit with a $2,900,000 penalty for failing to meet the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Safety Act reporting requirements on its 2012 and 2013 Street Triple R modes. The case involves a recall of 1368 Triumphs to fix a defect in which four bolts holding the cable guides to either side of the head tube could come loose and lock the steering — which could potentially causing an accident. According to the NHTSA, Triumph failed to file quarterly reports on the safety recall in a timely manner, failed to furnish the NHTSA with copies of notices, service bulletins and other communications sent to dealers, owners or purchasers as required.

2015 MOTOCROSS DES NATIONS TEAMS
When Italy named it’s 2015 Motocross des Nations team, everybody in the sport just stood back in silence. No Cairoli. No Phillipaerts. No Guarneri. No Lupino. Instead the Italian team will be Samuele Bernardini (24th in 250 GP points), Michele Cervellin (11th in EMX 250 points) and Ivo Monticelli (19th in 250 GP points). However, every team has issues. AMA Champion Ryan Dungey refused to race the MXDN this year. Kevin Strijbos, Clement Desalle and Ken DeDycker are all injured for Belgium. Ken Roczen says he won’t race on the German team because he wants to heal up from minor surgery on August 31. Luckily for Germany, Max Nagl has recovered from his broken ankle and is back racing. Arnaud Tonus is signed up for the Swiss team, but hasn’t raced much in 2015 because of a lingering illness (they already named an alternate to take his place just in case). Davy Pootjes has been replaced on the Dutch MXDN team by Nick Kouwenberg. Ken De Dycker, who has spent most of the 2015 season injured, will replaced Kevin Strijbos on Team Belgium. No matter how you look at it, it’s hard to imagine a Motocross des Nations without Cairoli, Dungey, Desalle, Stribos or Roczen, but get used to it. Here are the teams named so far.
