MXGP DECIDES TO HOLD THE MAJORITY OF THE 2020 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN ITALY
The September 6th Grand Prix of Turkey in Afyonkarahisar has been canceled. No surprise as the MXGP promoters struggle with the harsh realities of the Covid-19 pandemic. The MXGP braintrust, not only caneled the Turkish GP (which had been on shaky footing from the moment it was announced) but they canceled the Grand Prix of Portugal and the Grand Prix of Russia.
What did they replace them with? An all-Italian, all the time, World Championship calendar that will have triple-headers in Faenza, Italy, on September 6th, 9th and 13th, followed by a triple-header in Mantova, Italy (on September 27th, September 30th and October 4th), a triple header in Lommel, Belgium, on October 18th, 21st and 25th and a triple-header in Trentino, Italy, on November 1st, 4th and 8th.
With all the triple-headers the 2020 FIM World Motocross Championship will host 18 rounds— 9 of those races will be in Italy, 3 in Belgium and three, already held in Latvia. When added up, 15 of the 18 races will be held in three countries—Latvia (3), Belgium (3) and Italy (9). The only stand-alone Grand Prix remaining for this season, with a firm date on the remaining 2020 schedule, is Intu-Xanadu, Spain, on October 11th. This is hardly representative of a World Motocross Championship, but it is the best that can be hoped for in the age of Covid-19.

COLOR-CODED GUIDE TO THE MXGP TRIPLE-HEADERS
KLIM’S NEW FALL RELEASE OFF-ROAD GEAR
Klim has added a brand new lineup of colors for all three off-road lines, the Dakar, Mojave and XC Lite. The Dakar series gets new kit matching pants, jersey, gloves (plus one more new jersey). The Mojave series also gets new matching pants, jersey, gloves (plus one more jersey). The XC Lite series gets two new fully matched sets of gear.
DAKAR
The Dakar series gear is a blend of durability and airflow, featuring massive adjustable vents on the pant legs in addition to multiple stretch panels, leather overlays, and heavy duty 840D Cordura in key areas.
The recently redesigned Dakar Jersey, with tough sleeves, vented sides, a zippered sleeve pocket and a lightweight body, is equally focused on durability while still maintaining good airflow for off-road riding.
The recently redesigned Mojave Jersey also features a more open mesh body material for more airflow, while upgrading to the same durable sleeve material found in the Dakar Jersey.
XC LITE
The XC Lite series is engineered with the aggressive trail rider in mind, the XC Lite series puts extra focus on comfort in extremely demanding conditions, where airflow, moisture-wicking materials and highly flexible fabrics can make or break the experience. Still, durability isn’t pushed aside with leather overlays and durable fabrics in high wear areas.

ALL-NEW AMERICAN SWM MOTORCYCLE IMPORTER NAMED
Central Powersport Distribution (CPD) has signed a partnership deal with SWM Motorcycles of Milan, Italy. Effective immediately, CPD is now the official U.S. importer and distributor of SWM motorcycles, parts and accessories. However, that doesn’t mean that they have bikes in stock as of yet.
Although the common interpretation of SWM is “Speedy Working Machines,” in fact, it stands for Sironi Vergani Vimercate Milano (SVVM), but the two “Vs” looked like a “W” so it became SWM to end the confusion. SWM started in 1971 in Milan, Italy. They made Sachs-engined off-road bikes and moved to Rotax engines in 1977. SWM went out of business in 1984.
But, when KTM bought Husqvarna from BMW and moved it to Austria—leaving a brand new factory that BMW had buil, sitting idle, SWM saw an opportunity to build motorcycles again and acquired the rights and tooling to make the motorcycles from the Husqvarna engineering that KTM had left behind.
SWM SuperDual X adventure bike.
KTM also left behind a skilled workforce, including engineer Ampelio Macchi, who had work for Cagiva, Husqvarna and Aprilia. With a factory, workers and engineer, SWM found Chinese money, from Shineray, and in 2014 brought back SWM back from the dead.
SWM Italy hopes that CPD can grow the US market for SWM’s dual-sport-oriented model line of adventure bikes and off-road bikes. CPD is also the importer for the Spanish-built Rieju brand, which recently obtained the rights to the GasGas technology, engines and chassis that KTM left behind when they bought GasGas. The mating of SWM with Rieju gives CPD both a four-stroke and two-stroke line that could break into American dealerships.
SWM’s plans for the immediate future in the USA include homologating the SWM street lineup of motorcycles for 50-state street legality. This is important, and very difficult, step will bring even more options to the SWM dealer network. For more information on Central Powersports Distribution and to become a dealer for SWM, Rieju, or Electric Motion, visit www.cpd.direct

IT’S HERE! DAVE MILLER MEMORIAL FACE MASKS BACK IN STOCK
So many people have continued to request the Scott Face Mask that Curt Evans (the artist behind the project) and Jimmy Mac produced to help famous tuner Dave Miller in his fight with cancer. They sold out the first batch of masks in record time, but have produced a new production run. They are just two motocross guys trying to help out the family of a friend. Here is Curt Evan’s message and how you can get a few masks.
“Wow! Thanks so much for your interest in the Scott Face Mask and helping out Dave Miller’s family, ” Said Curt. “We appreciate your patience. We didn’t think the response would be so great after our initial run of over 400 masks allowed us to donate over $3500 to help Dave’s family! (Unfortunately, Dave lost his battle with cancer on May 22, but his family still needs our help, so we are not stopping our efforts to lessen their burden). The masks are $20 each for anywhere in the USA. Sorry, no foreign orders at this time). This includes shipping through the U.S. Mail. You can PayPal the money or send a check. Drop me an email at [email protected] and I’ll get you the details. The masks are back in stock and ready to ship. Moto people are the best!”

In this issue, MXA tested and built the KTM 350SXF that we wished KTM had built in the first place back in 2011. We wanted a mid-size Open class bike, not high-rpm, big-bore 250. KTM didn’t give us that, so we built what we wanted with the help of a $650 Cylinder Works 366 kit. It changed the personality and peak horsepower of the KTM 350SX for the better.
