MXA’S WEEKEND NEWS ROUND-UP: ONE LAST CHAMPIONSHIP THAT WE DIDN’T KNOW EXISTED GOES TO, WHO ELSE, KTM

GLENN COLDENHOFF LEAVES GASGAS TO JOIN SEEWER & WATSON AT FACTORY YAMAHA FOR 2021

Yamaha team owner Louis Vosters, Glenn Coldenhoff and Yamaha Off-Road Racing Manager Alexandre Kowalski.

As should have been obvious to everyone when the GasGas team was announced and Glenn Coldenhoff was not on it, that he was headed elsewhere. That elsewhere is the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team, where Glenn will join Jeremy Seewer and Ben Watson in the 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship. The Dutch rider has scored five Grand Prix wins and dominated the Red Bud and Assen MXDN’s in 2018 and 2019.

Glenn Coldenhoff won GasGas it’s first-ever 450 Grand Prix on August 9, 2020.

Coldenhoff became the first GasGas rider to win a Grand Prix win he won the first of the three 2020 GPs at Kegums, Latvia. Coldenhoff is currently recovering from a neck injury that was sustained in a crash at the Lommel, Belgium, race. The Dutch sensation has already started his rehabilitation and is confident that he will be back to full-fitness and ready to fight for 450 Grand Prix wins in 2021.

Glenn Coldenhoff said, “I feel very welcomed by the whole Yamaha family. From the first moments we met, I felt there was a very motivated and ambitious team awaiting me. I am really thankful for the opportunity. I strongly believe that I can still make progress, win races and can fight for the championship. I know Yamaha will give me everything to achieve these goals. My recovery is going well, and I cannot wait to jump on the blue bike soon.”

CHRIS FILLMORE WINS 2020 AMA SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE NEW 2021 KTM 450SMR

Chris Fillmore gives KTM a winning debut of their 2021 Supermoto model.

Perhaps the least known and weirdly run of all the AMA National Championships, the 2020 AMA Supermoto National Championship was originally scheduled as a six-round series, but was pared down to one weekend in Tucson, Arizona, because of pandemic issues. Over the two days in Tucson the promoters jammed in four races to start and finish the Supermoto Championship in one quick blast. KTM swept the podium in the Open Pro class with Fillmore making the racing debut of the new-generation 450SMR, which will arrive at KTM dealers as a 2021 model later this month. Fillmore clinched his first-career AMA Supermoto Open Pro Championship a with a 2-2-1-1 weekend and led a KTM sweep of the Supermoto Championship ahead of Jake Laforge and Dustin Hoffman.

Chris Fillmore with the red plate and the 2021 KTM 450SMR.

Chris Fillmore said, “I was just happy to turn up at the races and put my competition face’on as a racer again. The competition was really tough and it made for exciting racing. For me, KTM coming out with the new-generation SMR was a great opportunity to get back to my roots of Supermoto, which began in 2003. Mitch Hansen of HMC Racing came out with me and to wrap up a championship with somebody who has done so much for me and my racing career is pretty awesome. I have to give a big thanks to KTM for staying true to their commitment of producing the most ‘Ready to Race’ motorcycles – which was clearly evident with a KTM sweep in the Pro class this year – and for allowing me to swing a leg over the bikes and have some fun, too.”

Jake Laforge tied on points with Fillmore for the Championship, but Laforge’s 1-1-2-2- lost the title by the fact that Fillmore 2-2-1-1 wins came at the end of the program, while Laforge’s wins came in races one and two.

MXA PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: PRO CIRCUIT’S RYAN VILLOPOTO REPLICA RV WORKS PIPE & RV T2 SILENCER

Pro Circuit is excited to introduce the Ryan Villopoto-spec YZ125 Works Pipe and Ti-2 Carbon Kevlar titanium silencer. this is the set-up that the multi-time champion used on his Yamaha YZ125 at the National 125 All-Star races. The RV Works Pipe is available for 2005 to 2021 YZ125 models and is designed to be stronger from bottom to mid of the YZ125 powerband. The added midrange power is extremely beneficial off the start or on tighter, softer tracks where acceleration out of corners is key. It’s not every day that riders get to bolt on a professional setup like this, so if you’re in the market for an YZ125 exhaust that will help pull you out of corners a little quicker or if you’re a professional looking for a better jump out of the gate, look no further.

The RV Ti-2 silencer is available for 2002-2021 YZ125 models and offers a professional look and a factory sound. When compared to a stock silencer, the RV Ti-2 version increases power on the bottom-end.

The RV Works Pipe and Ti-2 silencer is the perfect option for YZ125 riders looking to increase performance. Retail price $265.00 (RV Works pipe), $329.95 (RV Ti-2 silencer). For more info go to www.procircuit.com
