2020 SUPERCROSS SEASON CANCELED OR POSTPONED—EXCEPT FOR LAS VEGAS & SALT LAKE
Feld Entertainment was been forced to cancel the rounds 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 of the 2020 AMA Supercross series due to concerns over the coronavirus. They claim that they are postponed, but simple math says that it will be difficult to make up the dates, even with double-header weekends.

CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC AFFECTING SUPERCROSS | FULL COVERAGE
KTM, HUSKY & GAS GAS WILL SHUT DOWN FOR TWO WEEKS
Husqvarna and Gas Gas motorcycles will suspended production starting on March 30 until April 10. The factory in Mattighoffen, Austria will be closed as will the the WP factory in Munderfling. The measure is being taken to mitigate transmission of the virus between factory workers, but another factor was that the supply of parts from Italy has been interrupted by the Italian coronavirus epidemic. Many of the parts used in production come from countries hit harder by the Covid 19 crisis, including Italy and China. However, the international supply of motorcycles at various importers around the world will not be immediately affected, as production for the upcoming season has already been ramped up.
PEPSI BUYS ROCKSTAR ENERGY FOR $3.85 BILLION
Pepsi has purchased Rockstar Energy in a $3.85 billion deal. The deal will help Pepsi have a bigger presence in the energy drink market. In addition to already owning Mountain Dew’s Kickstart brand, GameFuel, SodaStream and AMP. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola owns a share of Monster Energy. The global energy drink market was valued at about $53 billion and Pepsi and Coke are trying to capture a bigger share of the beverage market because consumers are turning away from sugary drinks. Red Bull leads the energy drink sales category with 7.5 billion cans sold yearly.
BREAKING NEWS! GP’S OF SPAIN AND PORTUGAL MOVED TO OCTOBER; FRANVE TO JULY & BOTH INDONESIAN ROUNDS TO NOVEMBER (WITH ARGENTINA
The Spanish and Portuguese GPs have been cancelled from their original dates and rescheduled for later in the year. Much later! Spain was originally scheduled for April 19 and now will be held on October 11, while the Grand Prix of Portugal, originally slated for April 26, will now be held on October 18. Even worse, The two indonesian Fly-Away races have been moved to November1 and November8. They will be the second and third GPs schedule for November, as Argentina has been rescheduled to November 22. It is obvious that MXGP has no chance of keeping it’s regular 2020 race schedule and with more nations getting affected with the virus, it is possible that the 2020 Grand Prix season could become a Fall series as more and more events get canceled. Stay tuned.
At this moment, there are five GPs scheduled after the September 27, 2020 Motocross des Nations in France. It will most likely be moved, but a November race in France is iffy at best.

YAMAHA, KAWASAKI & HONDA CANCEL ALL SUPERCROSS AUTOGRAPH SESSIONS
TEAM HONDA’S ANNOUNCEMENT
“American Honda regrets to announce that due to the growing threat of coronavirus (COVID-19), Honda-supported Supercross teams (Team Honda HRC, Geico Honda, MotoConcepts Honda and Penrite Honda) will not participate in dealer appearances or AMA Supercross autograph signings, effective immediately and until further notice.
“Everyone at Honda recognizes the value of our customers and dealers, and appreciates their enthusiastic support; these functions are great opportunities for our riders and teams to interact with fans, and we regret having to make this difficult decision. That said, taking prudent measures to protect the health of all involved stakeholders is paramount. In the future, we’ll explore opportunities for alternative measures that we can take to repay our fans and customers for their support. In the meantime, thank you for your patience.”
TEAM KAWASAKI’S ANNOUNCEMENT
“Due to the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease), Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. regrets to inform our fans that we will be cancelling all upcoming dealer open houses for the foreseeable future. This difficult decision is with intent to protect the wellbeing of our customers, fans, and dealers along with our riders and crew members.”
THOMAS COVINGTON WASN’T FEELING THE VALKENSWAARD GP—SO HE SAT IT OUT
Thomas Covington did not race the GP at Valkenswaard last Sunday. According to his Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha team Covington and the team felt that he needed to spend more time on the bike to get up to Grand Prix standards. A Gebbon Van Roy spokesman said, “The American didn’t have a good feeling with the track on Saturday and together with the team it was decided that it would be best to sit out on race day.” This is surprising because Thomas Covington was a Grand Prix winner when he raced in Europe two years ago. He moved to the American Rockstar Husqvarna team in 2019, but had a miserable AMA season and decided to go back to Europe in 2020.
ROAN VAN DE MOOSDIJK, MITCH EVANS & WILSON TODD INJURED AT VALKENSWAARD
Roan van de Moosdijk of the F&H Racing Team twisted his ankle midway through the first moto of the Dutch GP at Valkenswaard, but bravely continued on finish 12th. X-rays at the hospital revealed a broken ankle and he had a metal plate installed.
DRT Kawasaki’s Wilson Todd was injured at the first corner at Valkenswaard when he was caught up in a multiple pile-up. The Australian was run over by several riders and sustained broken and badly lacerated fingers. With Argentina and Italy canceled, and France about to be canceled, they will all heal up before the next MXGP race.
Honda factory GP racer Mitch Evans was was involved in a multi-rider incident in the 450 class and dislocated his right shoulder. Honda is waiting for an MRI to assess the injury. The Australian said, “I’m really disappointed to be leaving here with my arm in a sling, without even managing to complete a lap. I got landed on by another rider on the downhill, which then sent me into a third rider and then I was thrown off the bike. I’ve never dislocated my shoulder before so it was quite painful but we got it put back in. I’m hoping it won’t be too serious though and I’ll be back riding soon, and I’m already looking forward to getting back out there.

MXA’S PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: POD K8 CARBON KNEE BRACES
Not only are the POD K8 Carbon knee braces cool looking and lightweight, but they’re also certified as a medical device and that makes them even better. The knee is one of the largest and most complex joints in the body, with three large bones held together by ligaments that are vital for joint stability and function.
POD developed their own Synthetic Ligaments to reduce the strain on the ligaments in your knee in the event of a crash. Inspired by the human body, POD’s patented Human Motion technology uses the Synthetic Ligaments engineered from Vectran Fibres (which are five times stronger than steel) to provide progressive, multidirectional motion control. The new POD Hinge Housing provides smooth contact surface against your knee avoiding abrasion against your gear while delivering new levels of comfort, performance & reliability.
The new CE impact tested & certified Full Coverage guards protect against impacts, handlebar strikes, plus enhance comfort when kneeling. The adaptive top and bottom cuffs were designed to conform to various leg shapes, while adapting to muscle movement while you’re. They accommodate muscle motion, increase comfort and disperse load reducing the risk of skeletal fractures.
